Reviews for Crown Automotive Billet Soft Top Disconnects for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ & Unlimited
The parts are sturdy. The holes didn't line up on 2 of the pieces for my factory top supports on my 2004 Rubicon. It was not a big deal to drill but still not expected. 1 of the 4 pins had too much coating and wouldn't fit throttle factory mounts either. Again not a big deal to file down but this was supposed to be a bolt on product not a trim to fit.
Dont fit out of the box. The holes do not line up with a frame on my 1998 TJ. The Pins are also too big for the brackets that are on the Jeep. Otherwise they seem to be of good quality aluminium .
I've got to express my dissatisfaction for these Billet Soft Top Dissconnects from "Crown Automotive" for my 1999 TJ Wrangler soft top frame! The manufacturer's hole placement, drilling and tapping for easy installation to my Jeep factory soft top frame was out-of-line and with stripped threads for the screws provided! I'm going to have to drill and tap new holes to attach these "Crown Automotive" billet dissconnects properly on my Jeep factory soft top frame! I chose to keep these "Crown" dissconnects and make the necessary corrections because I wanted aluminum ones to add strength and rigidity to my original Jeep TJ factory soft top! Only 2 stars because I'm going to make them work...thanks!
I must have gotten a bad set. I had to drill all new holes for the screws. On top of that, the bottom ones were too long and did not sit flush to the bars. I had to grind them down. Plus they would not fit the factory tabs on the roll bar as they would interfere on moving. Instead of making the tab holes bigger, I had to grind down the parts so the holes would line up. And they were not wide enough to fit over the tabs. For the top fittings I had to drill out the frame for the pins to fit and I had to drill a second hole for the screws. The new ones had two screws and the factory only used one. Never again.
The fit on these is horrible. The hole meant to fasten to the larger (rear-most) soft top bow is not in the correct location. I had to drill a new hole in my bow in order to get it to fit. This isn't a big deal if you have calipers and a drill set but it wouldn't have taken much for crown to place the threaded hole correctly. The knuckle barely fits over the bracket that mounts to the roll cage. This adds unnecessary resistance to the opening/closing operation. Crown lives up to its reputation of creating sub-standard aftermarket parts
None of these fit. The uppers caught on the brackets and I had to drill holes in the frame for the lowers to work
