Reviews for Crown Automotive J5459418 Tachometer for 76-86 Jeep CJ Series
Easy to wire. Font doesn't quite match OEM but what do you expect for a vehicle that hasn't been made for over 35 years.
worked as it should, looked good.
Great OEM replacement and The switch allowing get to connect to my V8 swap
I have purchased the crown tachometer about five times now and have used them in all my Jeep restorations. Looks are really nice very close to stock but there are couple issues that I run into. This is not really an issue but the wiring that it does come with is extremely small probably about 24 gauge. Seriously maybe about 5 strands of copper. How much more would it be to use 18 gauge wire to build. All the other builds I have used it in were V8 engines either the 304 or the 360 this is the first time I ever purchased it putting it in a 6 cylinder engine the 258. There is a switch on the back of the tach that you use to choose whether are you are running a four six or eight cylinder engine. I had it switched to the six cylinder position and hooked everything up when to go start it and the RPMs were way off. Idling at about 8,000 RPM the tach was barely reading 3000 rpm. I don't know if it was a default in the tach or not but I did remove it switched it to 8 cylinders and it was reading accurately idling at about 700 RPMs it was reading 7000. I don't know if others have ran into this issue or not I was going to send it back but since it reads okay now I just kept it installed. Nice looking tach. Nothing beats the original OEM but since I'm doing frame off restorations and sending the original out to be restored being a little expensive this is a nice alternative. They do look nice just a little skimpy on the wiring.
Good product easy to install.
