Reviews for DV8 Offroad RocKlaw Hood Catch System for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
these look so much better than the stock ones. My hood no longer rises up at high speeds.
These should be stock, they are fantastic!!!! We installed them on our 2015 Jeeps (Wrangler Sport and Willys) a year ago and have had no issue with them at all. No rust, no hood flutter, just reliable adjustable awesomeness. This is a "get it and forget it" upgrade that you will not regret. Totally worth the price.
The only issue i had was the latching was not a strong hold. There is a soft plastic peice that when latched would soften and not have a good hold. Who knows what a hard freeze would do to that particular peice. I could unlach using 1 finger and little force! I returned the latch and bought the billet hold down. Im pleased with the service.
Not my favorite, too many bolts and even with blue loctite they still loosened up .
Install was easy enough, but I never got the feeling of a solid "clamp down" even with fine adjustments. Solid material, nice looks. Small metal tab broke off after less than a year, after maybe only about 6 times opening & closing, but it does not seem to affect the function and is not noticeable. Poor value for the $.
These latches will not stay latched. No matter how I adjust them they pop open all the time.
I would NOT commend this for anyone else. The adjustment in the latch is very minimal and reduces your gap throughout the edge of your hood. The latch consistently and daily on pops and allows my hood to rattle. I cannot make it any tighter.
These things are awful. First I asked where they were made, Quadratec came back with USA, I get them in the mail, packaging says Taiwan. I go to install them and every bolt is a different size allen head, at least 3 different sizes. Than I go to adjust the height and barely hand tighten them and the nut bulges through the side of the aluminum wall. They are absolutely terrible.
I had a nightmare of a time installing these on my 2017 Wrangler JK. There are no installation instructions, because I think if you read in advance what a pain these were going to be you would not buy them. To get to the bolt holding the factory hood latch on the passenger side I had to remove the grill and remove the entire air cleaner assembly, then you can only reach it with a long ratchet extension. On the driver side, the horn is in the way and it makes it very difficult to get to the bolt. The only way to hand thread the bolts is to try to stick your fingers down inside the fender from the top, unless you have long thin fingers like an alien this is very difficult to do. After all that, I was feeling good when I got the bottom latches installed, but when trying to tighten the last bolt for the clamp on the hood the nut went halfway on the bolt and seized up. It must have been incorrectly manufactured because I started the nut by hand and when it hit the halfway point it would not tighten any further even using a 3/8" ratchet handle with an extension. So, I decided to pull it back off, but it would not turn in either direction. I am a big man, and using a ratchet extension on one side and holding the stupid allen wrench with a pair of pliers on the other side, the nut would not come off. The threads looked fine, and there was no signs of the nut being misthreaded or stripped. I think the problem is they use nuts with nylon inserts instead of traditional lock washers. Once the allen head stripped out, I had to go buy a mini hacksaw to cut the bolt head off, then hammer it through with a punch. Doing so, ruined the finish on the metal latch base. I also managed to scratch the paint on my hood when the saw slipped. To Quadratec's credit they did replace the entire product after I sent them photos of what happened. Even after I cut the bolt head off, the threads on the bolt looked pristine. I have been working on cars for 30+ years and I have never seen a nut go half way on like that and just seize up so it could not even be removed. They need to use some good old fashioned lock washers and forget the nuts with the nylon inserts.
May look nice but after only been on for 3 months the top hook feel off....so now have to purchase new latches....NOT WORTH the $90.....
