Reviews for Flowmaster 817674 American Thunder Stainless Steel Cat Back Exhaust for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited JK
Sounds great, easy install!
Easy install, great low tone, not overly loud. Plus clearance!
Sounds great
Can't beat this setup for the price. Install was fairly smooth, had more trouble pulling off the old exhaust.
Put everything on loose and test the fit and clearance for the crossmember and swaybar. I installed on a 2015 2 door. I only cut 19.5" off instead of 20.5" as stated by the instructions. There was just enough pipe to fully insert into the muffler. If I had taken any more off, the muffler would have contacted the hanger bar and not been seated completely.
I did space my swaybar down about 3/8" just for a little extra clearance to insure there was no contact or rattles. Even with that little bit of extra work, I don't regret the purchase.
I purchased this a week or so ago and I wasnt sure if I would like the sound or not. I was worried it would sound like a kid punched holes in his muffler. V6's arent known for great sound from the exhaust like a small block or Big Block. The only issue I had was ensuring the clamps were positioned over the joints correctly. I had to adjust the exhaust a couple times as at first I was contacting the body under the Drivers seat which gave a vibration and then when re tightening I noticed I had water dripping on me from the clamp joints. I adjusted the clamps and tightened to correct spec and now have no exhaust leaks and it sounds good in my opinion. I can still hear my 35 Trail Grapplers over my exhaust at 60mph. You do hear it when shifting, but it still isnt obnoxious. I coupled this exhaust with a Throttle Body Spacer and Flowmaster Delta Force Cold Air Intake. So far seems like a great setup.
Perfect for the "clean" look of no exhaust tip sticking out behind your rig. Tucked away nicely above the rear axle to prevent you from destroying it when you come off a bank that was a little steeper than you expected!
Really a great exhaust! Like others, I had some trouble getting it all in place and clear of any rattles. The points to watch are the muffler edges and where the pipe meets the rear sway bar. Both have pretty tight clearances but if you've cleared them by at least 1.5" you should be good.
Great sound and low profile looks!
As most everyone has mentioned, the stock muffler was tough to remove. My Jeep was a Florida swamp/mud/hurricane Jeep until last month. You can imagine how bad the stock muffler was "welded" together from the salt, sand, and Everglades mud. Install went relatively smooth. As was said on here, remove your skid plate. I only removed three bolts and just swung it out of the way. Once installed, I torqued all the fittings, fired it up, and couldn't be happier. It almost sounds "manly" now.
I love this exhaust!!!! It was time to replace my stock exhaust on my 2007 Wrangler. After initially wanting the Metal Mulisha dual meat-head axleback exhaust I came to my senses and realized that thing would get ripped while wheelin'. I had decided a high-clearance relocation kit was needed. Not knowing a whole lot about exhaust my inclination was to go with Flowmaster because it's a trusted brand name. My friend who knows a lot more about working on cars/trucks than me looked at this kit and said it was going to be "Cop Magnet Loud" due to the small muffler and it's straight-thru design. I looked at a view videos on youtube and it didn't seem to be obnoxiously loud. I read some reviews and it was about the same. I decided to pull the trigger on this exhaust because really any high-clearance exhaust would have to be louder than stock. I could not have been happier when I heard the sound of this after installation. It was the perfect volume and has a great deep tone, not tinny or ricey. I took my friend for a ride in it and he immediately was impressed, saying he never heard a muffler that small sound this good. Even my girlfriend who was not enthused about a possibly having a loud vehicle said "that's not loud". I'm not sure if this is just in my head but it feels like it has slightly faster acceleration. Regardless it just feels good. I cannot give any advice on installation as I had a professional do it for me because I had additional work needed on the y-pipe which had a rotted heat shield but that has nothing to do with this kit. The shop said the only trick about installation was there wasn't a lot of room where it fits around the rear sway bar and a spacer was needed.
Very pleased with the sound of this exhaust. As it has settled in after the 2,000 mile mark after install it gives just enough sound without being over bearing.
