Reviews for QuadraTop Premium Sailcloth Replacement Soft Top in Black Diamond for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door
I have had this top for almost a year. It was bought for me as a replacement on my 2010 JK as a gift from my girlfriend. I have really enjoyed it and it was easy to install. Please do it on a warm day. I had one seam on the passenger rear zip out come loose and they replaced it without question. The only complaint I have is the elastic has stretched from the rear window and sags when rolled up. I would buy this top again!
I purchased this top as a replacement for my Mopar top which had become old and lost its flexibility. The feel of the fabric was at least as thick as the original. The instructions were fairly easy to follow, except knowing which way to wrap the fabric on the second bow. When I secured it the way the picture showed it seemed too tight so I took it off. I still am unsure which way to wrap that fabric because the holes on the bow on the other side are too big. Now for the bad part of my experience. The rear window had some defects or indentations on it. I called and they sent out a replacement the very next day. Unfortunately the window I got was scratched. I emailed and another one was again sent. This one was worse and even had a footprint on it! It didn't even fit as well as the other two. I just gave up and picked the second one and will try to get the scratches out. Overall the quality and fit are good enough for the price. Its not twill but it looks better than the old one did at half the price. After all it is a jeep top and the windows will eventually get scratched no matter what. Just disappointed that the rear window is starting out that way.
Like another reviewer had said, the metal tabs on the side windows have fallen off. Only happened on one of mine which I installed last fall, but considering this top has never even been folded down I am not impressed. This particular window still zips in without the tab but with pressure it will unzip itself. Also, the rear window does not seem as wide as OEM and the bar does not seem to press tightly into the clips. The fabric is great, the top is much quieter, but however, it leaks more than the 6 year old OEM top did. Could be a lot better, but I have been willing to compromise considering its a Jeep, not a Mercedes.
The good: the fabric is good and the windows are tinted and clear. It looks to be high quality when you get it installed, a good value. If someone else had installed it for me, I would probably rate it 4.5
The bad: the directions are not good and I won't state how many hours it took me to install because I'm embarrassed. Quadratec needs a good YouTube video with some close-up shots that shows the complete installation for this particular top - I couldn't find one anywhere. It was very difficult to understand how the material attaches to the header on the corners (hardest part of the installation). I did not understand how to attach fabric to cross bars the way it is shown - the view shown shows fabric going under both crossbars but that is not the way it works. The fabric goes under one and goes over, a big difference when you try to close the top. The few pilot holes in the fabric that attaches it to the cross bars are so small, they are virtually invisible, and are on the wrong side so you have to estimate where the screws should go (I messed up on one so it has two holes 1/2 inch apart). When I called on two occasions I was told the fabric needed to lay in the sun for 2 hours and the temperature needed to be 75-80 degrees. I did that, but I don't know if that is really necessary or not. I mentioned that it looked like I might have torn the fabric or broken the plastic (Later I realized I was wrong) and it was suggested that it happened because the fabric wasn't warm enough when I installed it. If that were the case, then you couldn't put the top down unless the weather was that temperature. Thus, an overall rating of 3 due to the installation caused by the poor directions and mostly due to getting the fabric around the corners on the header done correctly.
Didn't last. Zips failed on side windows.
I've had to have the windows replaced twice. The little metal.tabs on the ends fall off and prevent the windows from staying zipped. The quality of the top is very good. I am happy with that, just think the Windows may have a defect in manufacturing.
First, let me say the customer service at Quadratec is great. I purchased this top the first after I got my JK and it was great. After about a year and a half one of the side window zippers broke and the stitching came apart. Quadratec sent me an entire replacement soft top (top, side windows and rear window) when I only requested a side window. Well, I finally got around to installing it yesterday. Weather was 93 degrees out and I let the top and windows sit in the sun on my blacktop driveway for 3 hours. Plenty of time to become loose and pliable. Install went easy as I had experience from my last top. They do need to revise the instruction booklet to address attaching the top to the header...lot of confusion of how to deal with the ends of the top and others have noted this. I don't see why updating the instructions is a hard task. With that said, it came time to install the side windows. This was a nightmare. The windows seated in the door channel fine and zipped up fine but the bottom would not snap in. I had to literally put all of my weight on the frame top to get them to install. First one went in. When I got to second, I repeated the same process and the zipper came apart. Unzipped it and tried again. Same thing. Two more times and I took a break. Went back for one last time and the metal tab on the zipper flew off rendering this window useless. Luckily I had my old top window and it was the side that was still good. I was able to get that one installed. On to the rear window. This thing just would not go in. The tailgate bar kept coming out. The window seemed too small. Had to unlatch the header and literally HANG on the back frame to get this thing to stay WHILE a friend closed the tailgate. This top is on but I will not be taking it off for fear of not being able to get it back on or worse, having the window zippers break. This is a horrible product. Could I call quadrated and let them know about these issues? Yes. Would they most likely make it right? I think so. But I'm so disgusted I just don't have it in me to go through the trouble. I'm now looking into a different soft top because I have had it with these.
Had only a month when the side window zipper tab broke. They replaced top under warranty. Roughly a month of use after replacing and same thing happened. I've seen this on other reviews and seems like they have a problem. Do not purchase this product. Save yourself time, money and frustration.
My wife bought me this top for our anniversary back in MAY. Just finished installing the 2nd one of these as the zippers blew out already on the first one. Putting windows in for first time on second and zipper blows out. Will be calling first thing in the morning to see what can be done now. Very disappointed with the product
