Reviews for Rugged Ridge 11640.10 Hurricane Flat Fender Flares for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Great product easy to install
Easy installation. Look great!
Very happy with the installation of the flares. It really makes my Jeep look great.
Look great but there were some jagged cuts made by the manufacturer, a hole was missing for a bolt that I had to drill myself and the 3M stripping isn't all that its cracked up to be. Also if you want to replace the marker lights good luck because you basically seal them into the flares for eternity. But again they look great and give much clearance for bigger tires.
Good product, but there are some quality issues with the flares themselves, and the instructions have plenty of mistakes or misleading information to work through. These are relatively minor but can be frustrating.
The fitment of the front flares can be off along the seams, leaving some gaps along the body. A bit disappointing.
On the instructions, there are four main issues I ran into:
1. It wasn't clear if you should use the short or long M4 bolts when attaching the side markers. It becomes abundantly clear once you try and finish it up (you need the long bolts; the short ones go to the rear fender flares).
2. On page 6 where there is a description on attaching the front flares, red and green arrows are used. There are different shades of green on the page (compare step 15 and 17 for that) and if you are red-green color blind, ouch. This matters a lot as you'll use the wrong washers if you don't catch that.
3. For the rear flares on page 7, it isn't clear if step 19 is for 2-door JKs and step 20 is for 4-door, or both? There are some contradictory steps in both of these. I have a JKUR so step 20 seemed appropriate.
4. For the Rubicon, at least, there is an axle breather hose that is attached to the fender liner push pin where these instructions want you to use a bolt, washer, and nut. I went with one of the original push pins instead to keep that breather hose bracket connected. No mention of this in the manual. It's also entirely possible that my lift relocated this breather hose bracket here for all I know, so keep that in mind.
Other positives - these look good, and they look as if they will last a long time. Plenty of hardware was included in the kit, including a full set of stainless or black accent nuts for all 4 fenders.
Positive: nice view
Negative:
1) annual paining of bolts
2) side lights are not potected from rusting. I bought small LED and put them inside original
3) there are wholes between car and flares, no tapes
The fenders are solid plastic and sturdy. The light housing has nothing protecting it from the elements or water. One will work and one will not and it will be a constant issue. Spend $500 on something that does not need to be constantly fixed.
Installed in the summer ...the following February (6 months) the marker lights are rusted and not working ..
A year after install the decorative black bolts are rusted and look terrible . When it rains the "pockets" hold water and the bolts are lying in it 100% of the time .
I will have to remove them all and sandblast and paint and re install them all.
