Reviews for Tuffy Tailgate Security Enclosure for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited
I ordered a Tuffy Security Products Tailgate Security Enclosure for 07-17 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door for my 2017 JKU on Monday and received today (Wed). Instructions are ok, but really if you have every assembled anything out of a box you could probably do this too. I installed this by myself; to make install easier I left the one of the side panels off until I got the unit in place in the back of the jeep via the tail gate, then I bolted on the side panel, pressed on the rubber trim, followed by securing assembly to jeep floor anchors. Works great love it!
This was easy to install, and fit really well. I noticed there was another review of this where the reviewer had to drill out holes for the assembly bolts. I did not have those issues, I was able to install it without any drilling.
Overall a good product. One corner was bent in shipping, but bent back fairly easily. Installation should have been simple, but one bracket’s holes were misaligned. A drill and black primer fixed it, but still a little frustrating. Getting it in the vehicle was awkward, but not overly difficult. Once installed it does what it is supposed too. Even with the weather stripping I don’t think it will be water tight. I love the platform it provides and it really increases my cargo space. I also love how it will keep my gear from flying around in the event of an accident. It isn’t perfect, but I am happy to have it.
Well designed, takes alittle doing to get into place, but 2 people can easily do it. Going to have to find a heat reflective material to put in top, the black makes it hotter than an oven in the trunk.
Product seems sturdy and well built. Feels secure once installed in the Jeep. Assembly is pretty straightforward. The holes for the bolts could have been a little larger, but I screwed them in just fine. Getting it placed in the Jeep was a task, but it does fit. Definitely easier with two people. I'm sure there is an easy way to get it in, just not sure what it was. My only complaint about the construction itself are the rubber pieces and seals that fit on edges. I feel like those could have been made to fit either better or more permanently. Other than that, seems like a great product.
Product works well to create a secure area. However, it is not very flexible or easy to take out or put back in. If I had it to do over again I would choose the deluxe version with the hinged lid. The lid on this version cannot be removed as easily as advertised. I also agree with what others have said, the instructions are not clear and this was difficult to install.
Works great install not to bad direction a little poor but still relativly easy
I bought this direct from tuffy for new JKU. It's great for what it is. Install is a bit tricky due to pretty bad instrux, but ten bolts total so no big deal to redo your wrong guesses. Freedom panels will NOT fit between back seats and front of cover, despite what tuffy rep told me, so keep that in mind.
Looks great and is very sturdy. The instructions weren't too clear though, especially the getting it into the Jeep.. but overall really happy with the product!
Fits into my 2015 JKU fairly snug, a few gaps around the wheel well but I probably just need to shift it a little bit. My few notes about this is 1) I wasn't aware at first that I was using the hex screws from my trunk to secure it at first and thought I was missing parts. 2) The angle to screw those hex screws back down is extremely minimal and it was difficult tightening it down. 3) I set the enclosure on top of the carpet provided by the dealership which seemed fine, but don't bother trying to set it on top of the rubber Mopar mat if you got one without looking into longer screws.
Overall a good product. One corner did come in bent along with the side holes being slightly off. Easily fixed with a drill and a hammer.
