Reviews for Mopar 68045040AA Locking Fuel Tank Cap for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
I haven't installed it yet. Seems good quality, as I'd expect from an official MOPAR part. It was way expensive, but I'm hoping to avoid the dreaded "Check Engine" light by using an official MOPAR part instead of a cheaper replacement. Like I said, I haven't installed it yet because I still haven't gotten it keyed to my ignition key because that too is way expensive ($60). That's right, you have to have a locksmith or dealership key it to your ignition key. I've read that you can just insert your key and turn it and it will key it self, but that isn't true. That is a different product. Be sure to look at the description.
Ok it fits good but after paying for cap @65ish then I had to take it to the dealer to get it "keyed" that was another 57ish.. I like that it works with my ignition key but was it worth 122ish ?? Idk
BE WARNED.
This does not come with the tumblers/wafers or the springs. You're expected to figure out which ones you need and order them from Mopar, which will run you an additional $30+ with shipping.
The Mopar site lists the parts under "Fuel Filler Neck" and you'll need one of each wafer, and springs for each.
Or you can buy a kit elsewhere that includes all the parts. Do your research before buying. Don't get burned like I did.
All that said, it's quality construction, and the lock being keyed to match the ignition key is very nice.
Didn't come with something and the locksmith had to finesse it by hand to which ended up failing and leaving the cap stuck on my jeep. I'd rather get it through a dealer even though it's super pricey.
Would be great, but it doesn't come with pins and springs to key it. Don't order without knowing that.
Why not sell this with the pin set? 2 dealers say "we don't do that take it to a locksmith". 3 locksmiths later, still just a paperweight. Don't waste your money or aggravation.
