Reviews for Rugged Ridge Modular XHD Snorkel Kit for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Straight forward install, took about 6 hours. Focused on sealing up the fittings properly. Jeep seems to breathe much better. Had the Banks cold air intake on prior, got wet in a water crossing so decided to go this route. So far so good
Love it. Have not been in any water deeper than my 32-inch tires, but the ram air effect on the mpg is awesome.
love the way it looks and works
love the snorkel, beware if using with a light bar. it can fit, but will take some very minute adjustments.
also, read ENTIRE instructions before beginning install. i put the entire thing on just to take it all apart to "seal" it with silicone, which couldve been done along the way.
First everything works as intended so far. Four stars because not until you get the product do you get a warning that it is made to work with RR products and this is not compatible with my aftermarket inner fenders...there are no instructions on how the drain tube operates...this is an intensive install ...100step process and involves cutting modification of the interior "instead of the hood" which is basically lying on their description.
Works great, only issues I found are:
1. They use these screws clips for the bottom and top of the air box which are not easy to use or access.
2. The bender bows out slightly which throw the alignment off of the fender seam.
3. You need to bend in the heat shield on the exhaust manifold slightly to get the duct to fit in going to the air box/snorkel.
But works great looks good instead of cutting the hood and fender where seen from the originals. One last tip use a rotary dremel to cut the fender under the cowl it cut it like butter instead of a pneumatic cutting wheels.
I put this system on my 2013 Rubicon 10A. Installation was horrific. The pieces are connected by silicone and clamps, which leaves a lot of room for error. The metal pipe needed to be pounded with a mallet to fit around the manifold. I bought this kit mainly because I wouldn’t have to cut my hood. I ended up uninstalling the system and selling it at a significant loss. Previously I installed an AEV snorkel on my 2009 JK X. I would go AEV again after buying the Rugged Ridge. This system has too many connections in my opinion to maintain it’s structural integrity throughout years of off road use. It’s a nice concept, but I don’t trust it. Rugged Ridge needs to redesign this snorkel with less connections and better fitment. I’ve owned plenty RR parts throughout the years that I was happy with, but this one just didn’t fit the bill.
