Reviews for Teraflex Front Swaybar Quick Disconnects for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK with 0-8" Lift
Easy to install.
Haven't tested these out fully but install was easy. I waited a week of daily driving before attempting to disconnect these as I talked with TeraFlex directly and was their suggestion for break in/wear. They are a little snug on the install and took some grease to get the uppers in but in the end it took about 15 minutes to install. Don't let the size over stock scare you as it did me, they fit and will work up to 2.5" in lift without rubbing.
Easy to install
Price and the Teraflex quality
Easy install pretty straight forward.
These are no doubt high quality and good sway bar disconnects. So, why only 3 stars? The disconnects have been redesigned at some point and the instructions that come with them are for the old model. The big difference is the top - the attachment to the sway bar itself. Instead of two nuts as in the instructions and in the older model there is now a bolt from the flex joint that goes through the sway bar with a single nut to tighten. The issue is that this nut will begin turning the bolt (which connects to the flexible joint on the disconnect) before the required torque is achieved. The bolt has a 6mm Allen fitting on the bolt bottom. This is easy to miss and not mentioned in the instructions at all. At some point I happened to remember a reference to this in one of their instructional videos about another product. The idea is you use your 6mm Allen wrench to hold the bolt while you tighten the nut to 75 foot pounds. You can't do this with a standard Allen key unless you have the strength of the Hulk. And, since the Allen key is holding the bolt, you can't get a standard torque wrench on the nut. I finally got mine to 75 foot pounds by allowing the Allen key to wedge against the spring (not easily done) and using an adapter that allowed an open end wrench to be attached to a torque wrench (not something your average DIY mechanic would have I think).
The point is - Teraflex has great products (I have lots of their stuff). But, in this case, the instructions you receive are for an older product which seems infinitely easier to install. It seems to me these need to be redesigned to, once again, be an easy install which is one of their selling points for the item.
if I could give a negative star I would. less then 10,000 miles the bushings are worn out , lost both clips(not at the same time) while driving causing the swaybar to pop loose. once was on the highway NOT FUN AND VERY UNSAFE !! cannot disconnect because my tires hit the pin that mounts to the body mount. I cannot return them because I have had them too long and its my own fault for not disconnecting and checking when I got them.
I installed these on a '17 JKU, fully stock. When disconnected and in the docked position, the tires rub on the end link. Not recommended.
