Reviews for Rugged Ridge Mesh Grille Insert for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Its heavy and clunky but for the price and finish its a decent upgrade. I would not pay more for it.
A little flimsy on some parts. But i zip tied the screen to the two bracket that hold it against the plastic.
Looks great! I made sure to attach the mount brackets exactly symmetrically and it didn't appear to want to warp the grill as some of the other reviews mentioned. On the Anniversary Addition grill there are some extra plastic tabs for the bronze inserts which got in the way of the mesh a bit, but trimming down the tabs and cutting a few parts of the mesh that are hidden made everything line up correctly. Overall I would say it was easy enough to install if you take your time and really be precise.
Made the jeep look better, and also save from a lot of bigger insects like grasshoppers from getting into my radiator and rocks. I have driven on a lot of gravel back roads by cornfields and my radiator still looks new after 3 years.. the only issue I have with the insert is that after three years it is a little rusty in the corners. If you get this, before you install it, use either a rhino liner paint on it, or powder coat it....
NIce expanded metal or mesh. The attaching supports did not suit my jku and I had to modify them.
Pretty robust grill. Bottom attachments were not much of an issue, however, the top bracket sat along the top edge of the frame so when the front bezel is snapped back on, it bulged out. Reversed Engineered for a bit but decided to try another day.
Love the look, but after a couple months the paint started chipping. Had to spray paint again. Overall the grille looks great.
There’s no doubt having a mesh grill insert looks good and offers practical benefits in protecting the radiator from larger objects. However, this product has a few short comings. The instructions are a little vague, so you’ll need to give the installation a little extra thought and pay close attention to its fitment to get it right. But it’s doable… The next challenge comes when refitting the factory grill back on later model Wranglers. As the grid mesh is held in place by two metal bars each retained by a small nut and dome head bolt. They won’t fit easily between the flush mounting surfaces of the front upper frame and the factory JK grill. Inverting the bolts to have the nut visible on top of the JK grill and trimming the radiator cowling on the upper frame to provide the bars with clearance, you can slide the JK grill back into position and refit the plastic retaining clips. It’s a tight fit and a fiddly process. The end result can look good but you’ll have to be prepared to spend the extra time to make it fit properly.
Received as a gift from my wife. It looks good once in place, but the instructions are really lacking and getting this to fit is no easy thing. The holes need to be drilled far enough toward the front of the grill that the bars that hold the grill in place will not interfere with putting the mounting screws back in place once you put the grill back on the jeep. The instructions should have spelled this out. And once you do drill far enough forward, getting the bar into place to hold the grill requires you to really wrench and stretch the plastic on the grill. Then... once you remount the grill, you'll need to trim the plastic above the radiator to minimize further stretching the grill to fit with the bars in place. And the screws and nuts supplied are really pretty cheap. So ultimately in place and looks good and would not have been that complicated, but duh... write some descent installation instructions!
The powder coating strips away after about a year and the metal underneath begins to rust. Credit where credit is due, it was easy to install and looked good until It began to rust away. That being said, the price is too high for something that now makes my Jeep look like an old rusted out clunker. If I wanted that look, I would’ve just kept my old TJ. Junk product!
