Reviews for DV8 Offroad Billet 6-Speed Shift Knob for 11-18 Jeep Wrangler JK with Manual Transmission
love the look - feels much better than stock
Very nice fit and finish. Simple assembly as well.
awesome
I went with the black finish rather than the billet. Trickiest part of the install was getting the factory knob off. I literally aligned my entire body so I could put full pulling force on the factory shift knob while it was down in 6th or reverse, and it finally came off. New shift knob goes on easily and feels very secure. Its definitely smaller than the factory shift knob, but the rubber tread ring is very grippy. Overall a good purchase and visually appealing as well.
Very clean and feels better than the factory shift knob only problem is it didnt come with installation instructions, took an extra 10 minutes to install because of that but still a great product
Excellent quality. The way jeep mounts their knobs changed in 2017. The original equipment doesn't pull directly off without twisting a new internal locking clamp. Fortunately the service manager at my dealer knew this. The original was destroyed during removal. The set screw sets deeper to account for this. I used some silicone internally to keep the set screw from relaxing. Loctite should also work.
I gave a three star with generosity. ALL products should come with instructions, this one does not. Product itself is fine. Removal of shift knob on 17 JK Unlimited did not remove as readily as transfer case shift knob. I had to go back and read the reviews, and thankfully some enterprising Wrangler owner figured it out. I didn't use the same tool as he did, I used channel locks. Destroyed the factory shift in doing so.
My OEM shift knob was rattling horribly and I realized a few of the plastic tabs on the knob were broken so I went with this replacement. I opted for Black rather than Brushed Aluminum. I REALLY like the look and feel of it--except when the weather is extremely hot or extremely cold. Because this thing is made of metal instead of plastic it can be painful to touch in extreme temperatures. It really wakes you up either way. :-) I'm only giving it 3 stars, however, because after 3 months the numbers are flaking off. Not a deal breaker, but for the price I expect better quality.
At first glance it looked like a high quality product- then I realized it's held in place by a chintzy set screw. On a NSG370 shifter- notorious for excessive movement- this is totally inadequate. I installed mine initially and got perhaps 25 miles on city streets before it came loose. I reinstalled it tighter, and used blue thread locker. This time I made it 50 miles before it worked it's way loose.
Nice shift knob, but awful mounting. I could buy a knob from a big-box parts store that mounts as well.
Does not come with the most basic of instructions. Upon doing my own research and getting the OE knobs off, only to find this is NOT a direct fit replacement. Not sure how this fits my Jeep, especially with no instructions and no immediate support.
