Reviews for Smittybilt Classic Rear Bumper with Hitch in Textured Black for 87-06 Jeep Wrangler YJ, TJ & Unlimited
Looks great. Went on easily.
I went with the cheaper bumper but the quality is still there and I have really been satisfied with this product
gives a great look to the back of your jeep. warning to make it safer to tow something you will need to drop your gas tank to secure the bumper more otherwise you can't get to the bolts. if your not going to tow with it and use it for looks just skip the bolts that require you to drop the tank.
Great bumper. Bolted right up. I didn't have to worry about dropping the tank to get all the bolts installed because when I repaired the rusted frame rails I made them about 3 inches longer than stock.
Like the bumper on my 92 YJ. . Matches front well. Very heavy compared to the 05 bumper I removed. Holes didn’t match up either. Had to make adjustments and holes bigger. It also pretty difficult to get all bolts in with gas tank in way. But in the end works for me.
Fairly good install. Bolt attachments are a bit weird.
Solid construction, heavy grade steel. Texture is a "camera case" type finish.
Went on good, but word to the wise, where it says "may have to drop fuel tank" there is no may , you will have to drop it. Just watch a YouTube video on dropping it, its a lot simpler then thought, and you only need to lower it a little bit not all the way out
Very solid built bumper.
That said it was a bear to install without dropping the gas tank. I did it but will never do it again without dropping the tank.
Good: Excellent craftsmanship, sturdy, ascetically pleasing, fantastic textured finish. Welds appear to be complete with few flaws.
Bad: Instructions vague, on 99 TJ have to drill additional holes with template that is reversible and difficult to place accurately and securely. Must drop fuel tank to place backing plates to secure inside bolts. Threaded holes in bumper were filled with grease increasing work to use any type of loctite on bolts.
