Reviews for Smittybilt Rear XRC System Textured Black for 87-06 Jeep Wrangler YJ, TJ & Unlimited
I have had XRC front and year bumpers on my JK Rubicon for six years now and they still look like new. I live in the north east and rock crawl almost every weekend.
I am very satisfied with this product. The install was pretty straight forward, but it does take some time, +4hrs. There were two bolts that connect the bumper to the center of the frame that I left out because it appeared you had to drop the fuel tank to get them in and I didn't want to do that. But there's some much hardware and additional reinforcement brackets elsewhere mounting the bumper that I don't think these two bolts were critical. I've had it installed for 2 years now and there have been no issues. I have had to adjust the tire carrier height once, but that's a quick process. The build quality is solid and the surface coating has held up well. No issues towing with it either.
Looks great install was pretty easy.
Love it
Well built, looks great and the install was not to difficult was a great upgrade to my old bumper system.
Good tire carrier. Hearty. Be sure to read the directions closely and add some of these parts on to your XRC bumper before you install that bumper. Will save a lot of hassle.
Also, check to see if you'll need a shim to space the swing path early in the installation process. It's only mentioned at the very end of the instructions.
Great bumper easy install, Minus the two bottom side bolts I snapped when removing the old tow hitch. (My fault). Bumper came well packed would be 5 stars but my bumper had some abrasions down to bare metal.
Overall look and fit is what I wanted. Vertical adjustment is nice as you don't have that option on a lot of tire carriers.
Someone else made this point but it is worth repeating - if you get the bumper and the carrier at the same time, there are pieces for the carrier you should install on the bumper before you attach it. While one can still get the job done if you forget, it will become a two person job.
Good quality product! Had trouble with the pull up pin on swing side - ended up widening the spring on the end - it's was getting stuck around the pin when I tried to pull up! Other than that the latch mechanism is very good! Just remember to bolt it bumper before you attach to vehicle!
The bumper is well built and appears to have a good paint job. The bumper installation requires 4 holes to be drilled in the rear frame cross-member. Four bolts are then installed from the back of the cross-member and screwed into secured nuts located on the bumper. The instructions indicate the bolt installation is difficult. To complete this bolting operation step on my 2005 Rubicon, it is necessary to remove the gas tank. This little detail is not mentioned in the installation instructions. That is the reason for only three stars.
