Reviews for DV8 Offroad Billet 4WD Knob for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
I went with the black rather than billet finish. Put shifter into 4WD Low and used upper body as leverage to pull off factory knob. There is no trick to it, it just requires a lot of force. New knob attaches well and feels secure and grippy, despite being smaller than the factory knob. Bought this as a set with the 6sp Manual Transmission Shift Knob...
Looks good. Feels good. Easy to install. I giggled when I read another reviewer say that it gets cold in winter. A big hunk of metal gets COLD when the temperature drops, compared to the plastic OEM knob. :-) The hardest part is getting the old knob off. There are some decent videos on Youtube about this. Use a strap wrench if you have one. I used a pipe wrench. Easy.
Excellent quality. The way jeep mounts their knobs changed in 2017. The original equipment doesn't pull directly off without twisting a new internal locking clamp. Fortunately the service manager at my dealer knew this. The original was destroyed during removal. The set screw sets deeper to account for this. Loctite should also work.
look great. haven't installed yet because I haven't been able to remove my factory knobs. No instructions at all!
The one for the gear shifter works perfectly, the one for the transfer case comes right off if you pull it so I think the set screw is not tapped low enough.
Would have given it 5 stars but it didn't come with instructions also it twists side to side a little all the way tightened.
Nice knob but the instructions say that the factory knob will come off "with extra force." I applied extra force and shattered both transfer case cable grommets, leaving my Jeep in 4L and me limping to the repair shop to shift back to 2H. I've since replaced the grommets myself for about $15, but the dealership wanted to charge $150-$310 for a new transfer case cable assembly. I should have left the stock knob on - the aesthetic results of this knob weren't worth the hassle.
Does not come with the most basic of instructions. Upon doing my own research and getting the OE knobs off, only to find this is NOT a direct fit replacement. Not sure how this fits my Jeep, especially with no instructions and no immediate support.
