Reviews for Crown Automotive RT21004 Heavy Duty Steering Kit for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ & Unlimited and 91-01 Cherokee XJ
Recently installed this kit thinking it would be an upgrade. It failed inspection for worn tie rod ends. They are brand new. They were 2 days old when it failed. After installing I experienced my first case of death wobble on this jeep. Now it does it alot. Im looking for something else to swap in its place. Quadratec should stop selling this kit. Its a hazard. I need to see if there is a warranty on these parts. Im hoping I didn't wait too long to install the kit and can send it back. Absolutely worthless.
0 stars but thats not possible. Horrible horrible tie rod ends. Like another review dry rotten within a few months and completely rusted.
This is not heavy duty. 4 months and the tie rod boot is gone, plus the rust that came within 2 weeks. Bad quality.
I installed this in February and 4 short months later (I'm writing this in June of the same year) this steering linkage is trashed. After driving through the FIRST rainfall, the outer tie-rods had surface rust, which didn't initially bother me. Now the outer tie-rod ends are completely rusted with light pitting, the rubber over the pivot points are cracked (one of them has play in it). Just for reference, this was installed on my girlfriend's 4 cylinder 97' TJ. She drives it on pavement only... it has not been abused off-road. I expected more from a product title claiming that the part is 'Heavy Duty', when in actuality it isn't coated in anything, the pivoting part of the tie-rod ends are tiny and poorly manufactured.
bought this just barely over a year ago and i already have to replace it. we don't go wheeling in it...the most extreme conditions is the traffic to/from work. waste of money. i plan on calling customer service and getting to return/exchange it for an upgraded linkage.
So far I'm not impressed. I got the part and there were no instructions but I managed to get it installed, began greasing the fittings and one wouldn't take grease and the other tie rod end boot was ripped so I didn't even see this till I started filling with grease. I'm a little more than pissed off that Crown can't check their products better than this and send a unit out with a bad grease fitting and a ripped boot. It better perform ridiculously good or I'll prolly never order another product from Crown.
