Reviews for Flowkooler 1750 FLOWKOOLER Water Pump for 00-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ with 4.0L I-6 Engine
Great product only challenge was I needed to use a Tap to clean up the threads for the fan studs
Flow rate.
Put one of these in 10 years ago and getting a new one now. I think that's just how long water pumps last. This definitely keeps the Jeep cool. I can sit in track in AUG and never worry. However, it did throw a p1281 code all winter because "coolant temperature does not reach 181 F (83 C) while driving for more than 3 minutes." I can live with it.
At the moment everything is fine, I installed it a couple of weeks ago, I like that the Jeep in low revolutions does not raise the temperature so much, it is about 185 • F
Nice water cooler, gasket a little cheesy, used a Felpro one instead.
As part of a large job, replacing the head gasket and other items, I decided to replace the water pump as well. The pump fit great and seems to be working just fine. Have not had the opportunity to sit in too much stop and go traffic, however I think this is where the pump will shine. Overall a great product.
Works well
First and foremost, this will not resolve any overheating issues you may have and may actually cause new overheating issues. The best option is to replace any parts with factory (Mopar) replacements. This pump does move the coolant faster than stock. This introduces a new issue: the coolant does not stay in the radiator long enough to cool down.
I've had this pump on my TJ for a little over a week now and I am disappointed with its performance. I was excited to get it in as I do a lot of slow, slow crawling (Rubicrawler doubler, 4:1 Tcase, 5.39's, and 37's) but it didn't make a difference at all with my overheating. I did a lot of reading after the fact and I've learned that the stock cooling system is the best you're going to get. Larger radiators, lower thermostats, faster pumps; not going to make a difference and I literally tried every combination of them all. Something else you should know that I've recently learned: the coolant gauge (and oil pressure gauge) in your TJ lies to you. I used a Scangauge ii to check what the actual temps were and when the needle is halfway through the 0 on 210, your actual temps are 245-250.
Overall, this is a very nice looking pump and it appears to do exactly what it's advertised to do. The impeller does look pretty good too. Install is straightforward so long as you follow the instructions included with the pump (do not skip step #10) and there wasn't anything different with the install compared to a factory pump. I haven't seen it leak a single drop and, had it worked as I had expected, I'd give it a solid 5-stars.
The universe is against my Jeep's will to keep a water pump for too long.... Over the last 5 years, I had two water pumps from ( Advance Auto purchases ) fail with the plastic blades breaking apart, then I purchased this one two years ago only because it had metal blades.... and then just recently it started to leak out of the weep hole... So I purchased another one in hopes it doesn't decide to "weep" like the previous one... but I am not sure what other option I feel better about.... these things ( plastic or metal blades ) all seem to be lacking long life quality... and since I am disliking plastic more so right now.... I'll get this one again and cross me fingers.
The water pump works fine. I don't know if it ran any cooler, but it never got hot on my 800 mile trip
