Reviews for Teraflex 1513001 TERA 9550 VSS Steering Stabilizer for 97-18 Jeep Wrangler TJ & JK
Directions are for multiple years and could be a little more detailed. More companies are putting out these black and white directions with pictures that look like they were made on a bad copier. I almost just slapped this on in place of the old one without adjusting the bracket, then I found a Youtube video of a guy showing how to measure and mark the stabilizer to find the "center" before its on the jeep. I ended up having to loosen & move the bracket inward about 1" or so to center it. Got full lock left to right with no issues once it was installed. Some minor issues because this one is beefier than stock, like trimming the plastic on the stabilizer and rotating the stabilizer down a bit with the bracket to avoid it rubbing on other parts (2008 jk). My stock stabilizer had 70k hard miles and I could easily expand and contract it by hand once it was off the jeep, which it should not do. Now the steering left to right is tighter and less play. Well worth the time & money.
It works well. Easy install
My stock stabilizer had 100k miles on it and I was making a bunch of front end upgrades and suspension changes so I figured I'd go ahead and replace it with this. Seems to have firmed up the steering a little. I did have to fiddle around with the adjustment a few times as it was limiting my wheel turn to the left, but once I got it dialed in it was unnoticeable.
Gave me piece of mind after i installed lift kit and bigger tires.
Couldn't tell a huge difference over stock stabilizer but feel safer replacing on my daily driver with 33s and leveling kit
I just put this on my 2007 JKU after dealing with bump steer for a couple weeks. I really got tired of arm wrestling the steering wheel. It took me about 45 mins like another person mentioned, however, I went to the Jeep dealership and bought the updated mounting bracket. The updated mounting bracket no longer uses the u-bolt fasteners and instead uses a pinch bolt, for roughly $26.00 it is a massively better bracket!! Anyway, I no longer have bump steer and it functions wonderfully!! Great product Teraflex!!
This took about 45 minutes to install on my 2010 JKU Sport. Half the time was getting the old one off, it was a little seized on the bolt at the tie rod end. I followed the instructions though torquing at the tire side is impossible to get a torque wrench in due to clearance to the tie rod. I did not adjust the sliding pinch bolt or even loosen it. I put this on right where the stock SS was. Did the full lock steering test left and right, there was over an inch to the end of travel to either side of the new SS, so I packed up and called it a day. The ride really is night and day. I had 100k on my stock SS and never felt that it was a problem. Was I wrong. Steering is SO smooth and going over choppy bumps...you REALLY can feel it, not only in the steering but in the ride itself. The truck is less squirrelly...not that my rig ever was, or so I thought. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Manufactured well, fit Jeep TJ perfectly, and does what it's suppose to do and it does it well. Very pleased with purchase.
This replaced another after market one I had after I lifted my Jeep. What a huge difference. This one is so much better at the job its supposed to do. No more crazy wobble after hitting a pot hole. Well done Teraflex.
2008 jk I installed with teraflex HD steering kit, check my review on that item if your interested. I highly recommend relocating the axle end to the outside of the track bar mount with the bolt included in this kit otherwise it is very tight against axle when installed on stock stabilizer axle mount. You can get away with it but you will need to angle the tie rod end mount a little bit down so you have clearance under axle mount.
