Reviews for Bestop 51798-35 2-Piece Front Doors in Black Diamond for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
At first, they didn't seem to fit well and hard to close. After watching a video from a reviewer. I loosened bottom hinge bolt close the doors from side and the latch to line up and close I tightened the hinge bolts. I'm very happy they are lite and when it storms i just throw them on and keeps me dry
Installed the doors yesterday and I really like them. They fit fine with the few adjustments. They look good and go well with soft top.
Wanted to ride with the doors off all summer without having to throw a cover on. The doors come on and off easily so when I’m at work I can pop them on if I need them. I look forward to using the most summer.
We purchased these doors despite the negative reviews. And I'm so happy we did. The doors were a bit challenging to install but understandably so. And once they were in we were in love. We've had no trouble with leaking during rain storms while driving or sitting in a parking lot. They have the road noise you would expect. The quality is great and the design is very nice allowing you to remove the top part of the door depending on your situation. I highly recommend these doors.
Nice top
From reading the reviews on this product, it seems that some people bought these doors without thinking things through, or doing their homework.
These door are excellent for their intended purpose. They can't magically become something different because you want them to be something different. And them not being something different is not a fault of these doors. And rating them low because they are not what you want them to be is unfair to the product, and, frankly, reflects more on you than on the doors themselves.
These doors are for Jeep owners who drive with the doors off whenever possible, and who want an easily stowed, quick to put on, temporary door if they get caught in inclement weather.
If that does not describe you, you should carefully consider your intent and whether these doors can become what you want them to be.
If your main use of these will be freeway driving at 75+ MPH, you should carefully consider your intent and whether these doors can become what you want them to be.
I owned a set of these for my TJ for 10+years, and so I knew exactly what I was going to get when I bought these for my JK. They are temporary doors for protection against the elements. They can be quickly taken off and stowed in the back, and just as quickly put back on when needed. That's their purpose. If you want them for any other purpose, you should carefully consider your intent and whether these doors can become what you want them to be.
The "flapping" can be significantly minimized, if not eliminated, at highway speeds with some appropriate bending of the pins at the bottom of the upper door so it tilts a bit inward, forcing the upper door against the door surround when the door is closed. You may also need to bend the hinge pins a little so the door upper fits snugly into (not onto) the door surrounds. Such judicious bending can also result in a fairly good rain seal all around. Fairly good, not perfect. Mine now fit so I can drive at ~65-70 MPH with no flapping.
So, they CAN be installed with a good seal and no flapping if you know what you are doing and are not afraid to bend some metal.
If you want summer doors that seal tight, stick with the OEM half doors, or perhaps go for the Bestop Core Doors (not an endorsement; I've never owned them).
These doors are light weight and thin, and so will be noisy at highway speeds. But, they are excellent for their purpose. If you want to drive with the doors off as much as possible while having some weather protection easily stowed in the back and quickly installed when needed, then these doors are made for you. Just plan on bending some metal if you want to drive at freeway speeds with them. And, no, Bestop does not need to put this in the instructions. Any self-respecting Jeep owner should be able to figure it out.
While they could be less expensive, I am very satisfied with these doors overall.
They are great for what they are designed to do which is go on quickly in a pop storm. If you don't want to get wet buy the metal doors.
These doors are exactly what I need for the cold or rainy days. Installation was simple with just a couple adjustments. I haven't received the soft top yet but drove it at 65 mph and noise and flapping is nothing compared to some of the reviews and I don't even have the door surrounds on yet. The seals don't seal completely but should be enough to keep rain out. I'm running tube doors now but will keep these in back for inclement weather. Thanks for the quick shipments!
Have had mine for 2 years now. People who are complaining, are you forgetting you are driving a Jeep????!!?? No they are not perfect, leak water but it's still better then being down poured on in a storm. They never claimed them to be water tight! If they are bending it's because you did not follow instructions on how to install them properly. I Love mine!!
Good product
I've had these for a little over a year now. They require a little work to make fit initially but after that they go on and off in seconds.
These will keep the dash, driver, and seats dry. they will let in a little water that will make the carpet wet.(take the plugs out), At higher speeds, ~55 mph, the doors will begin to pull away from the body a little and let the elements in. I wouldn't recommend these if your daily commute has a lot of highway driving.
I took off a star because you lose a fair bit of visibility when the top halves are on because the windows are considerably smaller.
