Reviews for Bestop 79140-35 Sailcloth Replace-a-top Soft Top with Tinted Windows for 04-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ Unlimited
Great top for my 2006 LJ. Fits great except the drivers rear corner at the top. The top frame does not sit in the corner of the top material so it makes the top loose on the drivers rear and sometimes will pop out the plastic that holds the top into the channel at the tub. I Love the Sun Rider front and use it often. The sun rider comes on all the LJ tops.
I ordered this in late Fall and was concerned of getting it on before it was too cold. I found a day where the high was 59 degrees and sunny. Laid the new top out flat for about two hours to warm in my driveway. Then I went to work. It took me about 90 minutes to remove and install the new top. I had to trim the two plastic spacers on the rear corner as they were too big for the new to but other than that it went on great. Super excited about this new top. My old one was 14 years old and had a few tears but I was reluctant to buy a new one for fear of poor quality. I didn't realize how bad the windows were and this new one is great. I think it is actually quieter than my old one.
I put the top on my Jeep today. My wife and I laid the top on the lawn and allowed it plenty of time to warm up. It was 75 degrees and cloudy outside. I was concerned because the sun wasn’t out, but we forged ahead anyhow. After about 2 hours, we decided to get started. Approximately 1 hour later, it was time to put the top on the Jeep. The fit was perfect! The new zippers made it really easy to get the windows in. Overall I am extremely pleased. I would definitely recommend this top to everyone. Thank you Quadratec for the fast shipping!
I couldn't be happier with this replacement top.
It arrived reasonably quickly. I live in S. Florida and this is monsoon season; knowing that I needed several hours of sunlight I waited for a good day to install. The top & window panels were well packaged and had thick paper separating them, preventing friction marring during shipping. I spread the top and panels out on my porch in the sunlight and read a book for an hour. I then disassembled my old top, and threw the new one on. Total work time: about 90 minutes.
2 Observations: people who advise using sunshine to warm/stretch the components before installation are 100% correct. It makes a huge difference. Also - even though the directions suggest using hand screwdriver - I have a variable clutch on my drill. I set it to 1 and after starting the screws with a screwdriver I finished each w/the drill. It would have been a very tedious process to use nothing but a screwdriver.
Also - I was astounded at how easy the zippers were to attach & zip up. I don't know if the stock zippers are just poorly-designed or I just forgot what new feels like in the 14 years I've owned by jeep. But the zippers were a breeze and I can see myself dropping the top a lot more frequently since putting it back up isn't the PITA that my stock top was.
My biggest concern was that some of the pictures people submitted made the vinyl rear window look a little wrinkled/loose. I had same experience, but after 48 hours of hanging the vinyl tightened up, as I expected. I'm glad i didn't let my fears control me.
The only problem I have is the "new-vinyl" smell from volatiles outgassing from the PVC. This is unavoidable and will cure itself over time. If you have sensitivities to chemical odors this may be a problem for you for the first few weeks.
good looking top that is easy to install.
Arrived on time, packaged well and product went on easy. Perfect fit for my jeep.
It was on sale
Easy to install.
I really like my original OEM soft top but when the zippers went I had to replace it. I wanted what would ring me as close to OEM as possible. This is it. There is a little difference in the fit with more flapping in the roof, but it went on fairly easy and looks good. I was hoping to get a top in the original color as well, but the black does look pretty sharp.
Initially, I was happy with this top. I bought it to replace my 14 year old OEM soft top. The install was relatively easy and it fit my stock frame well. Unfortunately, those were the only positives. I immediately noticed how much extra flapping there was in the wind, but put that out of my mind as my stock top was so stiff at the end that there was no way it would flap. Then it rained. Water collects in the top every time it rains. I submitted a picture showing this and you can clearly see the outline of the stock speaker pods on my roll cage. This means the top is sagging several inches. I contacted Bestop and am copying there reply below. I honestly can't believe they have the reputation that they given this kinds of response.
Hello xxx,
Thank you. Unfortunately, just like the rest of our softtops water will pool on the tops. What I do is after it rains or snows is go out and push off the snow or I will push up in the middle of my top and let the water run off.
Thank you,
