Reviews for Quadratec RES-Q Teton Series Winch
Overall a nice looking winch, it’s nice it comes pre wired with rubber boots over the connections. Bought the smittybilt stealth winch years ago and it was a pain trying to get those rubber boots over the connection points. Rope comes on the spook already which makes it nice it’s already rounded unlike the smittybilt that came folded and took a couple times to wind it on the drum to get the bends out of it. Can’t wait to put this to the test.
Great value, easy install, nice to have the removable handle.
The winch was not too hard to install. The battery cables were just the right length.
I have not tried it out yet, but absolutely love how it looks on my Jeep.
I will try to keep this as short as I can, but there are a few things that people need to know.
First, the included instructions are kind of vague. I guess if anything else, go on YouTube and watch a Quadratech winch install if you get stuck. It comes with the mounting hardware that you need, so there shouldn't be any trips to the hardware store needed, unless you want to get zip-ties, black wire loom, etc.
Okay, I know that front bumpers are all different, and mine is a DV8 with a removable winch plate that is held on by (4) Grade 8 bolts. The plate had to be removed for me to install the winch per the instructions, and the proper way. So, I mounted to winch to the plate with the 4 bolts (that go from bottom of the plate up into the winch). The 4 nuts sit in the winch housing in such a way that when the bolt threads meet the nuts, you are able to tighten the bolts without the nuts spinning. Good design. From there, snug them up and then use a torque wrench to tighten to 50 ft. lbs. I also mounted the fairlead at this point as well. Very easy stuff.
Here's where the pain in my backside part came into play: the rear (2) of the (4) grade 8 bolts that hold the winch plate down to the bumper would no longer go back into the plate, because the winch housing was now in the way. I hadn't even thought of that possibility, but they were simply too long to slide in past the winch housing and into the holes. FYI: front bolts had plenty of room to be re-inserted and tightened down. So, I had to pick the winch up with plate still attached, put it back on the ground, loosen the 4 bolts holding the winch into place (the same ones that I had torqued down to 50 ft. lbs.) so I could move the winch enough to slide those two back bolts that hold the plate to the bumper back into place. Then I re-torqued the 4 bolts again, picked this 100 lbs back up again and sat it down on the front bumper. THEN I was able to get all 4 plate bolts tightened down to the bumper. Hopefully my mistake will save anyone reading this some time.
Other than that, it was an easy install. The leads are plenty long enough to reach the battery in my '15 Wrangler JKU. I still used plastic wire looms to protect the leads and be careful when routing them that they are not touching the radiator or hoses that get hot. I zip-tied off the excess. Once I had everything hooked up, as soon as I plugged the remote into the winch, a light comes on directly over the cable spool (which was a nice surprise, since I'd forgotten about that, lol) to see what you are doing in the dark.
I have not had a chance to actually use the winch yet, so I can't comment to the durability of it. But, it is definitely heavy duty and seems very well built. I also did purchase the vinyl winch cover to keep the snow, sand, ice, and little rocks out of there. I don't need it all jacked up and rusted out when it comes time to use it. I hope this review helps you all!
I was missing parts from the first winch plate I ordered with my winch. Great customer service had a new one sent to me right away! Not quite done installing winch, but LOVE how it looks! Thank you for the GREAT service, and an awesome winch!
Easy to install and looks great.
Have not had to use the winch yet other than pre-tensioning the winch rope. Installation was very easy on a Smittybilt Carbine bumper. I installed it myself in about 45 minutes. The wireless controller is nice since there is no cable to worry about damaging.
Most bang for your buck. I ordered the 10,000lb version and it is more than enough to pull me out of any mess I have encountered. The orange light is a plus as operating in the dark is easier now. Having the option to use the remote wireless or connected is a big plus too!
Easy install and I am expecting it to function as it should.
Love it. Before you put it in a Hard Rock bumper, be sure the wired remote functions work (still don’t know), but the wireless function works just as it should. Pulls well, looks great.
