Reviews for Rival 4x4 Aluminum Rear Bumper for 18-24 Jeep Wrangler JL
A great bumper with an integrated hitch. License plate bracket reuses OEM license plate light and harness.
Easy install and it turned out great. I replaced the tow hook mounting bolts with the stainless ones off Amazon that were 5 mm longer. IMHO look better as well. When installing the brackets to the frame, I recommend left side first then right. Tighten the bottom bolts, then top then front. Install license plate mount, but do not tighten until you check alignment with the rear bumper. Once you align it to match where you want tighten it and reinstall the rear bumper on the mounts. I tucked the wire up into the frame and zip tied it. Otherwise it’s just a direct plug-in. You can use a couple of the supplied, zip ties and adhesive pads to hide the wiring from the license plate and affix it to the bumper. On a sidenote, if you’re ordering front and rear bumpers, I recommend installing the rear first so you have an idea of how rivals instructions work. There are also some videos on YouTube that may help you. Thank you quadratec for answering my questions before purchase.
The bumper is solidly constructed and looks great. There were a few issues with the instructions not matching up 100% to the parts listing I got. This was due to a new revision in the instructions which are updated on the website. Be aware if you have the back up sensors you will need to either buy an extension for the the license plate light(if you can find one) or undo a large portion of the light/back up sensor harness. Otherwise the relocation of the license plate will not have enough cable by a long shot. I wish this was called before I ordered as I had to wait a few days for the loom tape to arrive after reworking my harness.
First of all the bumper looks great on my 2019 Sahara. But let's talk reality. If you have parking sensors forget about a two hour install. Think more like two days. And then once you get it installed good luck getting those parking sensors aligned and working. This bumper requires that you turn the sensor 90 degrees from how it was installed on factory OE bumper and that just doesn't cut it. So although the bumper looks great I am out an important safety feature. And beware of the "jeep clips" on the wire harness. If you accidentally break one that wire harness is history. You can buy the replacement for about $50 with shipping....And you will need to add almost two feet of wire to install the license plate light. So overall, great look but poor engineering.
