Reviews for Oracle Lighting 5861-504 Sidetrack Fender LED Lighting System for 18-22 Jeep Wrangler JL & Gladiator JT
Cool Lights.
I purchase this item for safety reasons it will allow others to see I'm attempting to make a lane change when they are coming up beside me, because the Gladiator is so long others can't see my turn signals when they are in your blind spot. Plus they look good also. Great product and easy to install..
I like the product, but Oracle underplays the difficulty of installation. No instructions come in the box. You can download a one-pager from their website, which is of minimal use. There is also a video of the installation on You-Tube. Here's what I learned the hard way. To remove the plastic wheel well liners, you have to remove "inner fasteners" and "outter fasteners." The inners are plastic large screw shaped pegs, and some will break when you pull them out. You need spares to replace the ones that break. Got them online. The "outters" are plastic rivets, and you will break them to get the liner out, three on each wheel well. Buy some extras, because they break when reinserting as well. You need a rivet gun to install, (no mention of this in any instruction or video). Got them for $6 a piece at the Jeep dealer (bit of a rip off). Once you get the liner out, the driver side is easy; t-tap the turn signal wire with yellow Oracle wire, then use a stick to get the white Oracle courtesy light wire through the firewall driver's side (pic on downloaded instructions and video), attach black wire to a ground. Driver side done. Now comes the hard part. The passenger side has a grommet to get through the firewall, they tell you to pass a "plunger" through from the passenger interior to the engine, then tape the white Oracle wire on it from the engine, and pull it back into the interior. I found the grommet hidden below the glove box in the passenger foot well area. There was zero room with a large bunch of wires going through it and there is no way to push anything through that grommet. Absolutely the worst thing I have ever tried to do. Four hours, from every angle, and a big no-go for my effort. You can't get your hand in there from engine side or the interior foot-well side. Cut the crap out of my hands trying over and over, and nothing short of a hydraulic press can push a stick through the grommet as they advertise. I gave up after so many hours of trying, "mission fail." Then I decided to buy some additional wire (I guessed 18 gauge primary wire from auto store would match, and some additional t-taps, as the ones that come in the box are cheap and broke). I spliced an extension of the white Oracle wire which was only long enough to reach the passenger side, (if I could have pushed it through the grommet), and fed it across the rear of the engine compartment, then pushed it through the driver side firewall gap, which I had used for the driver side installation. I t-tapped it on the driver side courtesy light, right next to where I had tapped the driver side white Oracle wire. Just to keep it clean, I zip tied the white wire extension to other wires in the engine compartment along the route to the drivers side, just below the windshield wiper area. All the lights worked, but I noticed that the 3M tape on the light unit was sticking to the Jeep, but was pulling off of the light unit. Super glue in a few spots and some pressing and that was fixed. It seems to me, the instructions could be a lot more specific, and running the passenger side white wire to the driver side would save a lot of frustration. Just my two cents. You will like them if you get the job done. Good luck.
Love the product, but my left side came with NO adhesive tape, so Oricsle sent me a complete new one. Not 5 stars because zero instructions, and might be one of the hardest things I’ve ever installed. Took 4 hours on one side, and 1.5 hours in last side. Biggest gripe, is getting through the fire wall, unbelievably hard. My old JK was a breeze to get through, but the JL is sealed up like a nuclear bomb. Other then that super super bright...turn signals, hazards, and courtesy lights all work
I've had these Side Track fender lights for about 8 or 9 months now. They look great and do a good job of providing perimeter lighting...when they work. I paid $200 to have them professionally installed at the Jeep dealer where I work. After about 7 months I noticed that the right side puddle lamp was working at anywhere between 0-100% intensity; the lane signal part works every time without fail. This is not the first time that I've had issues with Oracle lighting products on this truck. While I am sure that there is some kind of warranty coverage for this product, I don't really want to incur the additional expense of having the lights removed and reinstalled. I bought these primarily for the turn signal feature.
The product is a great idea. The price is rather high, but I expected a high quality and “complete” product.
The mechanical design looks good. The plastic is rigid and sufficiently thick. The tape however appears of lower quality than used by vehicle manufacturers. I recently installed Mopar window deflectors with this type of tape and noticed that it was much more adhesive.
The instructions (not included in the package) but online do not mention where to connect the ground wires! They also do not explain that when you try to pass the white wire through the driver’s side firewall you need to punch a hole through the plastic foot well wall! Rather than trying to go through the passenger’s side, I ran a wire from the driver’s side white wire and spliced it into the passenger’s side light.
The T-connectors are generally a poor way to make connections on vehicles. Make sure that the crimp is well seated. Once you crimp it test all your connections by moving them around a bit to make sure they are well seated. But adding to this the connectors on the lights have a cap that does not fit over the T-connector housing! Included with the kit were the correct sized caps but you must cut off the connectors on the lights and crimp these on. Once again for the cost of this product I would expect this to have been done at the factory.
They do not provide the replacement push pins for the fender liners! These are not reusable. In bulk these are cheap and should have been included in the package.
The LEDs are bright, and I add to the safety and convenience. For the price however I expected a more complete
I took mine to a customs shop to have installed. It took the technician 2 hours 45 minutes to install! The wiring is more of a job than it shows!
Great addition though!
I’ll start by saying that I love the look of this product. That being said, I’m giving this 3 stars solely based on installation difficulty. The box doesn’t come with instructions, so I had to go to the Oracle website to find them. The instructions are vague and don’t really help I’m regards to where you need to route certain wires to. Quadratec really needs to make an instructional video to make this product worth buying.
One of my lights burnt out just after the warranty period. Other than that, I liked them. They were functional and added a bit of safety to my ride with the turn signal option built in. Will not be re-ordering because of the issue I had with this set.
While I love the look of the lights, the installation was a TOTAL disaster. The instructions were not helpful and neither were the videos on the web. I had to take the '23 Gladiator to a trusted local shop where 2 mechanics with Jeep experience, experienced the same frustration I had with the installation. Keep in mind I know this shop as it does the work for other personal vehicles. The cost of the installation somewhat takes away from the enjoyment and look of the lights. It is not right that the product is sold as a Plug and Play with just 3 wires, one being a Ground. That was not my experience at all, with this product. Very disappointed.
