Reviews for Quadratec Spare Tire Mount Backup Camera for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Simple install and a great addition to the Sony AX5000.
Installation was straight forward and took about an hour. I purchased the factory radio kit; there is no cutting of existing wires with this kit. The quality of the camera image is not bad. The parking lines DO NOT move with the steering wheel. I purchased the Veepeak Scanner on Amazon and installed the OBS Jscan app on my phone to flash the radio ($28 for the scanner and $18.99 for the app. to synchronize the VIN). For the price of this kit, you can't go wrong.
Works like a charm. I highly recommend using a fishtape when pulling the leads towards the front of the vehicle, though. Got about halfway by hand before thinking of it. Be careful when pulling, though, as the this power wires can snap easilly. Fixable with a small wirenut and electrical tape, but still a hastle.
Great value and addition. Took about an hour to install. Radio needs to be reprogrammed for the option using an OBD app. I used $30 Veepeak bluetooth OBD reader and the OBD Jscan app to set the option. Easy! You should pick up the OBD combo anyway as you can change a lot of your jeep's ECU options without heading to the dealer. This rear camera is a great addition!
Took a couple of hours to install and yes the picture from camera was upside down but that was easy to turn over. yes the directions are not great but the plugs are idiot proof and fit in one way and one way only. I bought an app called obd jscan to flash my factory stereo and everything works great
I bought the aftermarket version of this camera to go with my Jensen CAR710 head unit because the camera has better resolution than the others I saw in this price range, the wiring harness includes power and ground cables that reach all the way to the head unit, allowing me to use the power connections my head unit comes with, and it's supposed to work with aftermarket wheels.
The resolution of the camera is excellent. The quality of the components is good and the instructions are easy to follow.
There are a couple of things I would change.
According to the instructions, the cable from the camera is supposed to be routed through the rubber grommet used for the third brakelight on the Jeep. If I routed the cable through that grommet, the camera cable connection to the camera-to-power/video cable (a short adapter cable that connects the camera cable to the video and power cables) fell right in the middle of the tailgate, as it should. However, the camera-to-power/video cable wasn't long enough to follow the existing tailgate wiring up into the back-right corner of the Jeep. The connectors would have been in a bad location. I could have used the extra length of the power/video cables (there are about 3-4 feet extra) to move the power and video connection into the tailgate, but it didn't look like there was enough room behind the tailgate trim piece for that, and I would have been running two cables across the tailgate hinge instead of just one. I had to route the camera cable through the left-most opening in the tailgate vent to get enough length to put the power and video connectors in a good location. So the camera-to-power/video cable needs to be about a foot longer. The main power and video cables could be a couple of feet shorter.
The other thing is that even with the camera on the top hole of the mounting plate to make it as short as possible, it still only clears my aftermarket wheel by about 1/8", and actually is above a part of the wheel.
Exactly as advertised..So much better than a small view in a replace the rear view mirror. Only issue was having to purchase a “license” to flash my RBZ radio thru
OBD scan app for my Veepack obd reader.to turn on the camera feature...
Install went fairly easy and well. Used the iCar VGate 4.0 BLE adaptor and the OBD JScan app to program it in.
Wow, what a great backup camera. Easy to install, read instructions, watched YouTube and two hours later, it was done. Great product, great price. Great job Quadratec...
Put this on a 2013 10th anniversary Rubicon unlimited. Very straightforward installation. A little daunting as you do have to disassemble the dash, but not hard. Make sure you have a trim button removal tool--well worth the 25 bucks at the autoparts store. Great picture--lines move with the steering wheel, which is nice and I was not expecting. Did cost me $50 bucks to get the dealer to flash the computer--kind of silly. Watch the installation videos on youtube--they help a lot. Really makes backing up much safer. Well done, Quadratec.
