Reviews for Sony XAV-AX7000 High Power Media Receiver
Simple install
Apple car play for my 2012 … could give the five stars just for that. Put in a dual usb outlet in the cig lighter / 12v hole and moved wires elsewhere to power rock lights with an on off switch behind the glove box door. Looks factory clean with the kit, a bit of effort required to make satellite work. Bass to at another level from original factory radio with the stock sub-woofer.
Why did it take me so long to add Apple Car Play to my 2015 Jeep... Easy to install, looks and sounds great. I also replaced my cigarette lighter with USB ports I found on Amazon to make it even more functional.
Bought this for my motorcycle and it looks and sounds great.
Purchased the 7000 vs 5000 due to the 5000 being on backorder since August with arrival maybe in '22. Shipped same day with install kit. I reviewed the install video a couple times prior to starting. I also found a really good YouTube video on the dash removal which made that process super quick. It was good to see the mods needed for proper fit - I shaved the front plastic using a dremel instead of cutting it out - made it flat taking the small (1/8"?) lip off. Install kit provides mounts to ensure nice fitment into dash. The plug & play is super simple. I added the SiriusXM tuner and USB to mini adapter. The kit did not include the OEM to XM antenna adapter - had to remove the locking mechanism and plug in without a lock - not bad but would have been nice. The one item not shown nor really addressed is where the USB in the console is located. I initially just ran the extension USB behind dash and next to console. Then found that night a YouTube video on where that plug is. It is plugged into a module behind the HVAC panel - the video showed exactly how to remove the panel to access the module and unplug the cable. Then used the adapter cable to USB1 on Radio. Finished! It took me more than 2.5 hours for initial install as I was very carful on removing of stuff not to break any tabs. And then took time to make sure wiring was tucked away nicely. Phase 2 to redo the USB only took about 30 min time. Radio sounds really good. Had to pay $15 to have the new SiriusXM transferred from old radio - what a crock! Apple CarPlay working great with USB in center consol. I would say good value for the radio/install kit and the 2 accessories - it is a Jeep and sound while important isn't going to match that of higher end cars/trucks. Will now need some time to master all the new features! Ask Rob to add the USB connection piece to the install video!
The plug and play installation kit is awesome!!! Installation took no time at all. I installed the backup camera and it works well. Having AppleCar is huge plus. Tho its does have a slow transition between apps at time.
2013 JKU, radio works great so far, car play works great. The sound is better than my factory head unit and is louder. I forgot to plug in SWC and had to get back into the dash. Once installed it looks very good in the jeep.
Why did I wait 5 years to upgrade my horrible stock radio in my JK. This stereo is amazing. Definitely watch the Quadratec install video as there is some simple trimming with a dremel that is no big deal. Power and clarity is light years ahead. And with built in amp there is no reason to worry about installing one under a seat and potentially getting wet. Great system - couldn’t be happier.
I really like the sound quality! I had the base radio with factory upgraded speakers. I did not realize how under powered it was! Looks great and now my 2013 JK has Apple Carplay!
Really impressed with how this head unit improves the sound of my stock speakers (puts off a full speaker upgrade for now). I initially went with the AX7000 over the AX5000 because of claims you don't need a separate amp to power a rear subwoofer. However, I later learned you do this by powering the sub off one of the rear speaker outputs.....so you'd have to run your front and rear speakers in parallel and give up the front/rear 'fader' control. For this reason I still installed a rear amp....so the higher cost for the AX7000 vs. AX5000 was a bit wasted for me as I did not end up using the main
(only?) functionality difference between these models.
