Reviews for Quadratec Spare Tire Mount 2 Bike Rack for 87-24 Jeep Wrangler YJ, TJ, JK & JL
Agree with previous review about paint scratching (same happened to us). Suggest putting duck tape around back end of mount first BEFORE placing over the tire (which works). Also in the instruction manual regarding installation, Figure 8 should read "F" strap, not "H" strap. The "H" strap is used to secure bikes after put on if needed.
I don’t have high hopes for the longevity of this rack after assembly and install. I don’t have 100% faith that the rack will keep the bikes on the rack on a long trip. The knobs for the arms are locked into place with plastic that has small teeth grooves to hold it in place.
The rear vertical rails that hang over the rear of the tire hit the tailgate and deeply scratched the heck out of my tailgate. Add motion and this will get worse. I’ll probably put some type of protective padding on those to try and stop it.
Debating a return.
Two stars because the design is excellent. But, it says that it will fit oversized tires up to 37 inches, which is FALSE. The side strap that hooks to the bottom of the tailgate is way too short. I have 35-inch tires and needed the straps to be at least 2-3 inches longer. Using this rack with 33-inch tires would be difficult. So, beware before you buy, it will NOT work on large tires. I waited MONTHS for this to arrive because it was on back order. And to top it all off, I'm past my return window because I was unable to install it right away. I just threw $200 down the toilet. Not happy. Quadtrec needs to be up front about what size spare tire this rack will work with.
Horrible design. We followed the installation instructions and still the bike rack laid up against the jeep and scratched the tailgate.
I have had this rack less than a year and it’s rusting out. I’m pretty upset because I paid $200 in shipping to get it to Alaska.
The lower clips damaged the paint on my brand new Rubicon, fortunately it’s a lease. The cross bar blocks the third brake light contrary what is advertised so I needed to rig up some spacers. Lastly the tightening knob that holds the arms fell off so now the entire thing is completely non functional. Overall a regrettable purchase.
Yep - I scratched my tailgate trying to get this thing on - now I see others had the same problem, so at least its not me for once! - Bad design. Returning it today. Just ordered the Hollywood SR1 rack instead.
We were very excited to receive this bike rack and we spent hours trying to install it. The adjustable discs with the teeth would barely move and it was hard to adjust. BE VERY careful when placing the rack over the spare. I have two large scratches on my brand new Jeep where the frame cut into my back gate, behind spare, cutting into the paint!!!! I was in tears. It’s not an easy install and could never get it to fit properly. Will be sending it back and most likely will be getting a hitch installed on my Jeep, since there aren’t any good spare tire bike racks out there that don’t interfere with the back up camera. Was disappointed with this rack, but I do love Quadratec...just bummed.
