Reviews for Quadratec Hardtop Drip Rail Mount Cross Bar Rack for 07-21 Jeep Wrangler JL & JK Unlimited with Factory Hardtop
Overall the product seems pretty sturdy but there are a few flaws in the design.
1. The strips they provide to use as protection on the drip rail are useless. They just fall off. I ended up purchasing door guards from a local auto store and used those which were 100 times better.
2. A few of the screws and lock nuts provided were faulty. The screws would not tighten into the lock nuts. I ended up getting screws from a Local Hardware store to complete the installation.
3. To get the racks on and off you almost have to unscrew the wing nuts all the way off. Often you go to far and the washer and lock washer just falls off. I have lost a couple already requiring me to go back to the hardware store to replace them.
I was debating between another mfg product but chose the quadratec product because it was a little cheaper. After the additional costs I went through to make this work I really di not save any money.
I have this on a 2019 Wrangler 2 Door JL
First of all, my experience with Quadratec has been great. We are lucky to have a great supplier. I just thought a heads up on these might be helpful. The quality of the rack is okay, however I have a 2015 JK and the drip rail doesn't extend past the rear window which leaves only a couple of feet between the racks which might work for skis, but anything longer, which is what I needed it for needs more space. The photo shows a more recent 4 door where the rails on the hard top extend al the way back and for those it should work fine. I was going to return them but the shipping was $60 so I'm just going to Craigslist them. Not angry, just a heads up for others.
Installed is absurdly tall. Drop rail on JK doesn’t extend to rear window, so looks a little awkward positioned so far forward. Makes wind moan sounds even around 35mph.
Way to high and loud
I sold my Thule rain gutter mounts when after I sold my first Jeep. I bought these trying to take the cheaper route and boy what a mistake that was. As with what others have said, the bars and mounts sit SO HIGH off the roof. I can’t leave the rack mounted with my kayak carrier attached when parking in the garage because they are SO HIGH. Similar to what others have said you almost have to back out the mounting wing but to get them off. They don’t even grip the rain gutter as much as other brands. The plastic covers on the mounting bracket are complete trash. Save your money and buy a rain gutter kit from Thule. I am a loyal Quadratec customer but this is one product that is not worth the money.
I wouldn't waste your money on these. Do what I wish I'd done and get one of the more expensive ones. We have only a very light duty use for these so I thought I'd get the cheap set, and I got burned. The fasteners are junk. When I put the top plates (that hold the bars down) on with the bolts/nylock nuts I found that many of them burred badly (no i did not crossthread them, they all started fine). I couldn't even get them tight, then ended up grinding off stuck nuts with a dremel. They seem to be very low grade stainless, the allen socket gets spun out easily, and obviously the thread machining is poor after my problems with stuck nuts. I ended up dropping $30 at the hardware store purchasing decent quality stainless socket head cap screws to do the job right, and I blew an afternoon on something that should have taken an hour. I've got a few spots around the fasteners where paint is knocked off from grinding off nuts, so in short order I'm sure it'll be rusting. When it does get rusty we'll buy a different brand, and probably from a different vendor out of spite because of this debacle.
