Reviews for Rough Country MLC-6 Multiple Light Controller for 18-22 Jeep Wrangler JL & Gladiator JT
Excellent product
Super easy installation. Especially with the YouTube video from RC. Works great and well worth the money to put all the switches in one area
This is my second MLC-6, the first was on a JK, now on a JT. I experienced and over came the switch mount housing being slightly misaligned with the base. I needed to find my own way with the main wire loom as I have a manual tranny. Overall it’s a great kit and performs well.
Installation is as easy or complicated as you make it, I went for the neatest finished product I could and took the extra time routing wires, adding loom and securing them as I went. In the end completely worth the effort - so much so that I just installed a second system in my Gladiator, the first went into my wife's Rubicon Unlimited - both systems control both Fire/EMS Emergency Lights and Aux lights. The ability to turn the backlighting off has been a major advantage for routine night driving.
Great design and would definetly purchase again. Only complaint I have is bolts don’t line up perfectly once you mount the lower bracket of the switch panel to the Jeep. But it can be overcome with alittle modification. Also the instructions don’t allow for wiring to go thru firewall on manual. So drilling is required.
Great product but wiring instructions for a manual transmission would be helpful. On manual transmission models the clutch cylinder runs through the spot the instructions tell you to route the wiring harness. The fix is to route the wire through the grommet on the passenger side where the main electrical harness for the vehicle pass through the firewall. I was able to do this by sticking a coat hanger through the grommet from the inside of the vehicle and in to the engine compartment. Then I cut the connector off, taped it to the hanger, greased it and it pull right through. Then I soldered the connector back on and it was done. Hope this helps someone with a manual transmission save some stress and minor tantrums.
Easy install, great fit. Looks like it is a stock item once installed.
(I think) unlike most people I got the lower dash mount. Clean factory look, but it's a tight fit under the dash, and no one has any good instructions on how to get everything unwired and re-wired back there. It's working great now.
The only real complaint I have is that the volt-meter safety feature turns itself of whenever the engine cranks up. That means if Auto Start/Stop is on, the aux features you have plugged in will shut off when the engine turns on again. They don't go off when the engine goes off, only when the engine comes back on. This is probably because the starter motor sucks up a ton of voltage and the alternator takes a second to catch back up. They turn back on after about 10 seconds, but it's a little annoying. You could always just disable the Auto Start/Stop if you're using the aux switches though.
Really nice product and enjoy the "factory" look of the plate and switches. Had to discount one star for the wiring as it had to be routed a different way and some of the bolts were different sizes than the directions. If you have a 20 JLU 4dr manual Sport, the "plug" they say to remove and drill is an already occupied space in the firewall. Fix was to run the wiring under the windshield corner down the inside side panel of the dash. Just a little more effort and thought but product turned out great.
Excellent product and mounts well in the engine compartment. Biggest challenge was trying to get through the firewall of the 2020 Gladiator. The diagram and instructions were not accurate for how to get through. I was able to trim down the connecting plug slightly and drill out a hole on the inside to manage to get the cable through.
I did change out a number of the switches to ones with labels that I bought separately so that I could remember which one controlled which light.
Good product with some minor adjustments.
Works as advertised. Latches for top cover are junk and cover is not waterproof. Needs further development.
