Reviews for Rough Country 1021 Straight Lower Gear Selector for 97-02 Jeep Wrangler TJ
Returning product. Did not fit my transmission. Different configuration. My Jeep is a 2000 model TJ with original transmission. Not sure where to go from here.
Needs a little bend rearward and would be 5 stars! Luckily I own a repair shop and have a press at my disposal. We bent the upper part that connects to the shifter toward the rear of the jeep a little and it works perfectly. 98 Jeep Wrangler SE 5 speed 2.5.
Does not work with NV 3550 transmission that I have in my 2001 TJ
Probably a great product if it fits your Jeep. It didn't fit my 99 TJ with the 2.5L and AX5. I had to cut the transmission plate hole bigger so it would shift into 1, 3, 5. Then when I thought I was gonna love it, turns out that the inner shift boot will not fit now due to the factory offset of the hole for the shift handle. I tried to adjust its position and drill new holes, but no matter where I placed it, it would not shift to all the gears.
Totally disappointed, still cant use my cup holder in the center console cause the shift handle hits my water bottle due to my 1 inch body lift.
Hope it works for you...
I installed it on a 1998 TJ 4.0 AX15. Exactly the model it was made for. It worked great on the test drive. When I reinstalled the factory center console, it absolutely would not work. You can’t get into 1st, 3rd, and 5th. It hits the front of the cutout for the stick shift. There is no way to make it work other than cutting the plastic console or bending the straight shaft.
What’s the point, just keep the factory shaft that has the bend in it. I rebuilt the factory unit with new bushings and it help my shifting significantly.
Quadratec was great. 5 stars. They took it back even though the part was covered in grease and had hammer marks on it from installing and then uninstalling the upper shaft to the new lower shaft.
