Reviews for Quadratec Modular Winch Ready Front Bumper for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
I went with this bumper because of how it looked with the stock fenders and I couldn't be happier!! Removing the stock bumper was the hardest part! Despite its overall weight, there was no need to level the suspension.
Only one complaint with this bumper. The bumper bolt threads were powder coated and caused damage to 2 nuts in which I had to go to ace hardware and replace. Please stop powder coating these threads. This makes life difficult.would be 5 star if not for the bolt thread issues
Love the modular part of this bumper and the look. I added a smittybuilt 10k winch to it and it fits well. The fog light extensions were backordered so I extended it myself and canceled them. My jeeps not new so no worries cutting them. Assembly of the bumper was tight and you will need a wratcheting wrench to get into some if the tighter spaces but not too difficult. Getting oem bumper off an 08 was not fun and took a 3ft breaker bar to beat the rust off old connections. Mine new one had some areas beat up in shipping but also had some rust spots on the welds for the bull bar where it was wrapped. Nothing a rattle can and a wire brush couldnt fix but seems like the powder coating could use some QC. I will have to keep this touched up for longer life. The minimal rust near the welds from the bull bar were the only thing keeping this from 5 stars. Very happy with the look and installation requirements. Overall decent quality and similar to what I have seen from competative products. Love that I can change it up later when I want larger tires or add lights etc.
Was a fairly straightforward install. However, the studs used to mount the bumper to the frame were never un-taped after they coated the steel in the "bedliner" type stuff. They used simple painter's tape, so it got old and brittle and was a nightmare to get off. I got it off by using an impact driver with a deep socket and one nut on all 8 studs to break the tape off.
In short: Excellent, durable product, but some remnants from manufacturing made a part of the install a bit rougher than it needed to be.
Easy to install with a helper or utilizing an ATV jack. I love the modular capability of this bumper. Easily mounted a 10,000 pound winch and two sets of lights.
Excellent product and being a modular bumper I can change the look if I want to, having the winch combined with it is an added bonus! I will definitely keep buying feom Quadratec!
I bought this in March of 2019 Overall I love it!
Packaging - 2 stars - Box is made of really cheap cardboard. Box was badly damaged and the small parts bags which are also cheaply packaged were broken open and pieces everywhere. Missing pieces were picked up at the local auto parts store.
Mounting - 4 stars - it was heavy but I installed it myself. Listen - buy the extension cables. They fit great and work great. Save yourself the hassle of making them yourself. The only reason for not 5 stars was they fairlead hardware. Look at the image provided of the setup on this site. You can see the threads from the fairlead mounting bolts sticking out. There should have been some type of acorn type nut that covered all exposed threads. Angled pulls can cause the cable to wear against the threads.
Remote - The wireless remote is fantastic (it reaches way farther than they list)
Operation - 5 stars I have used it a bunch of times in many different configurations. It's has worked great every time. They say not to pressure wash it. But, I've been through the automatic car wash at least 10 times and they prewash with the pressure walker and no problems have been encountered. But I'm not going to push my luck so I'm on here looking for the proper winch cover so I can start covering it when not in use. Thought I'd drop this review while I was here.
Good value for the price. I love it looks great! Same as the other reviews I saw the package was pretty much destroyed upon arrival. The harware was everywhere! Missing most of the hardware. Called quadratech they sent replacements no big deal the second package was also damaged but I figure thats on the delivery company. Me and a friend had the bumper on in a few hours. I did the winch myself in about a hour or so. My suggestions if you order this.
1 order the plug and play foglight extensions! They will not reach.
2. do not over tighten the ground wire it will break.
3. Have two people for the bumper install thing is heavy.
4. Put the fairlead on the front BEFORE you install the winch you will never get it on with the winch in the way.
Other then that i love the looks its sturdy. I have yet to use the winch in an actual recovery operation but will post another review when I do.
Overall a good value and pleased with the end result. I was a bit concerned when UPS delivered the bumper and there was a hole in the corner with hardware falling out. It was all there, although scattered around the box. Otherwise, the packaging was excellent with a dense padding protecting all of the bumper surfaces and a solid carton keeping it all together. The instructions are good and provide sufficient detail to get the job done. I also received the winch in the combo which was also packaged and documented well.
I am not a fan of the button head allen wrench hardware for mounting the outside sections of the bumpers and think a normal bolt would make it easier, and I think the bull bar mounting hardware could be larger.
A few thoughts. Add a warning when connecting the ground wire to the winch ground post, to not overtighten the connection, or the brass post may break off, as it did to me. It was threaded into the winch casing and easy to replace.
I also received the fog light extension wiring to mount the factory fog lights in the outside section of the bumper. They worked well and had the correct connectors. The only complaint is there is no place to fasten the wiring extension between the old connection and the fog lamps, leaving the wires dangling behind the bumper. A hole and plastic cable tie-downs would be nice I found some cable ties with small tabs that I pinched in between the bumper sections to secure the wires.
I recently purchased and installed a Quadratec modular bumper and 12K winch. The biggest problem was that the threaded mounting studs on the steel bumper were painted. That created a big problem because the M12 nylon nuts would not fit on without first removing the paint. We spent a lot of time with a wire brush to get them clean enough to screw onto the studs. Seems that the studs should have been masked when painting the bumper. Jim
