Reviews for Mopar Sun Bonnet for 18-20 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited
Like the fact that it is pretty much waterproof and it snaps to the vehicle to keep it snug. Not having to worry about Velcro and the ring dry rotting.
This soft top is exactly what I was looking for. It folds up nicely and fits in storage in back. Fits on snug/very tight and can easily be put on by one person. Perfect for when needed for spur of the moment rain or when you’re tired of baking in the sun.
Its okay. I would say 3.5 stars. Installation wasn't too bad. You do have to work for it though. Getting all the snaps took a lot of pulling in the hot sun. Afterwards though, the holes for the windshield bolts did not line up, so I took the windshield down again and unzipped the front part. It was a pain to reattach the zipper, but well worth it, as it really tightened everything up nicely. It still flaps a little in the wind around 50mph All in all I would say it serves its purpose, but I hope to see a better product on the market soon.
Also, the seams are starting to tear a little. There are holes where the stitching is that have expanded due to the pulling, but that is literally the only way you can get all the snaps on.
if you have flapping noise, make sure the two little pockets are over the back freedom top mounts - that helped out quite a bit with flapping noise.
The bonnett fits relatively well - the pockets for the middle section under the cover aren't set correctly so there is a big wrinkle as the fabric is loose over the front section. Also, both the back left and right corner are too short and will not reach the corner snaps, so we have to tuck it under. Other than that it works as we hoped.
Really not meant to be used with a soft top unless you're planning on removing your soft top rails every time you use this thing. Mopar messed this one up. All they had to do is create notches so the bonnet would go around where the rails connect to the roll bar. They didn't. You have to remove the rails to put this on. I don't know who wants to spend about 45 minutes taking apart their Jeep to put this thing on. Like most people, I would much prefer to keep this on all of the time, even with the roof up. I had to cut the notches out myself, to avoid having to remove the rails. Totally voids the warranty just so you know. Found out after the install, the windshield zipper covers the latches and you can't re-zip the bonnet after the soft top is down. You have to tuck the bonnet up under the plastic piece at the front of your soft top to keep it from drooping on your head. But, it does look nice once it is installed. Much better than those bungee or Velcro strapped tops. The snap system works well and create a tight fit. But it's very difficult getting everything lined up perfectly to able to snap the bonnet in place. Zero star for design and installation, 3 stars for appearance.
The back two corners do not click in. Try to find another one that fits better. Other than that it's been working fine so far.
I am really hoping my displeasure is premature. I installed everything yesterday and the top wont fully extend to the last 3 buttons on each side. It's nearly an inch off in some points. For the $$ spent, I had high expectations and was extremely excited to have something I could keep handy for anytime I get stuck in the rain. Putting this on is not the quickest process. Not sure where to go from here.....
I am not sure how others got all the buttons to snap being such a tight fit... Still can’t get the two outer buttons to even come close to reaching on the back rollbar . In hindsight I wish I would have thought through the buttons in the first place - it just seems like velcro ties or some other type of wrap would be way more effective and probably hold up better.... I am going to leave it out in the baking sun for a few days to see if I can get any more stretch out of the vinyl fabric and if not then its in the trash can and a waste of $$$
The front clips were also sewn upside down for me. The Quadratec guy said I’m the first one to mention this. I just received my replacement and it’s also upside down. Going for a 3rd attempt tomorrow :(
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! This is the worst MOPAR product I have bought. I typically buy OEM (MOPAR) accessories, but this one is embarrassing. The clips for the front under the windshield were sewn in up side down. They could not clip onto the metal roll bar under the windshield. The back corner was torn right out of the package. It also does not fit as it seems too short to button the rear fasteners. I would not even give $20 for this top. Waiting on a return now. Very sad...
