Reviews for Alpine PSS-22WRA Waterproof Full Sound System Upgrade for 11-18 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JK
Your program says this does not fit my 2016 Jeep Wrangler sport two door JK do you have a version of this for the two-door JK
It plugs into the existing system, and it's designed to work specifically with my JK
Plug and play!! The sound is AMAZING...
I installed it myself, it was definitely intimidating at first.
I had zero experience tuning the amps, so I took my time and with a little experimenting, I believe I nailed it!
After removing all the stock speakers, I ran the wiring harness, loosely installed the speakers and sub, connected everything, and turned the power on. BOOM it worked as it should. The amps hadn't been installed yet so I could tune them while they sat on the floorboard. I tweaked it until I found the best sound.
NO PROBEM!! I double checked everything, then buttoned everything up tight.
I'm very happy with this system
Finally had it installed in my '17 unlimited Sahara. Worth the price. Definitely makes a huge difference from the basic stock speakers. Sound is crisp and clear. Don't expect it to rattle the windows but really who would want that in a Jeep Wrangler especially if you take it off road which leads me to my next comment. The sub under the passenger seat is waterproof and fits so snug that you barely notice it. Impressive sound with the top off too. Alpine did a great job with this.
Bought this for my daughter's 2018 JKU and installed it myself. As others have stated, plan on a definite 6 to 8 hours for install. My installation took well of 2 days to complete because of issues with the subwoofer not working correctly. Quadratec customer service was not really much help and stated they'd ship out a whole new kit, but they didn't have any in stock and wouldn't have one for about 3 weeks. I tried to tell them I didn't need a whole kit, that just the amp for the sub must be bad and they had those readily available on the website. They told me I needed to contact Alpine support and have the Amp replaced under warranty (remind you, this was brand new right out of the box). Alpine tells me that they need to troubleshoot stuff with me on the phone before they'll do anything. The tech support guy from Alpine told me it sounded like I got a bad subwoofer and that the fastest way to rectify this was to get in touch with Quadratec and just get a new kit sent out. I contact quadratec again and I was told to give them a day or two so they could get in touch with Alpine and rectify the problem. That same day, a rep from Alpine called me and apologized for everything going on. I told him I had to tear the Jeep apart twice to do all of the troubleshooting and what did he want to do?? The same exact thing as the other people lol. So after going through the troubleshooting procedures, he had me take the amps out and tell me what the gain setting was put at. I told him it was set at what the instructions stated to put it at. THAT WAS THE PROBLEM!!!! Early kits were sent out to to field with incorrect instructions having the gain turned down way too far. If you buy this and get a copy of the old instructions, turn the gain up all the way on the sub amp and it will take care of your problem with the subwoofer not working. Colin also had me put the gain at about the 11 o'clock position for the other amp and speakers, as the old instructions had the gain for those way too high and the speakers would distort with a volume of anything greater than 15. For going through all this nonsense, Colin from Alpine, told me he'd like to send some Alpine swag to show how grateful he was for allowing him and Alpine to correct the problem. I never got anything from Alpine at all. I even sent Colin Vargo a follow up email a few weeks later and never got a reply back.
The system sounds great with a base factory head unit. there are hiccups with the kit though. Sometimes the subwoofer doesn't work when my daughter gets in and turns the vehicle on. If she shuts it off and restarts the Jeep, that usually fixes the problem and the bass comes back. Also, I mentioned to Colin that it makes a popping noise when she turns the Jeep on. He informed me that it's an issue with the Kit and the only way to rectify it would be to install a PAC TR-4. I wasn't going to splice wires, etc, so she deals with the pop noise. Also, when installing the Amps and the bracket under the drivers side dash area, it is possible to install the bracket incorrectly. If for some reason after you install the bracket/amps and you cannot get the door plug to unplug easily, it's because the bracket needs to be rotated 180 degrees horizontally. The amps should basically be toward the rear of the firewall, ie, why this kit is not compatible with a manual transmission Jeep. From looking at the instructions that are now online, it looks as if they corrected them and have the gain for the sub amp correctly annotated with max position. Hope this saves someone else the nightmare I went through with this kit. Sounds great, but intermittent bass problems and the popping noise because there's no delay on the AMP power at start up, is why I gave it 3 stars.
After a couple of visits to various audio shops & countless phone calls I almost gave up on this product, glad I did not. The bass/sound paired with the i209 head unit is far superior to stock but not mirror rattling which is perfect for me.
However I did have issues with the amp/sub controls on initial install that were finally and thankfully rectified by an authorized alpine shop. If you are experiencing the same I highly recommend finding an authorized shop to troubleshoot it. (Plug n play?...ehh, debatable) Haven’t tested the marine element yet but top off season is near.
Recently installed this in my 2017 Wrangler. First, plan on 6-8 hours for the install. You might be able to make the 2 hour install time with 4 seasoned Pro's working at the same time. Second, the install instructions leave a lot to be desired. The pictures in the directions are not obvious at times. Third, they left an extremely important step out, be sure to hook everything up first, test the system, and then adjust the amplifiers settings before installing them. You will not have access to after they are mounted under the dash, and they are a difficult install, so you do not want to go through it twice. Lastly, the sub, if it works, is very underwhelming for a 10". Although I have to admit that I have not been able to verify how well it works while installed since mine does not work at all. Mine has a loose connection either at the amp, or in the cable itself, most likely from the way you have to bend the cables to attach them without them interfering with your pedals. My suggestion, pay someone to install this for you. Otherwise, it seems like a good system.
I was excited to receive and install this in my 2015 Jeep. First the install was a little difficult trying to attach the amps in an almost impossible area. Understand I am very technically and mechanically incline. Second after 5 hours and a couple of busted knuckles. The magical moment of the first listen was less than magical. the speakers sounded pretty good but sub woofer was non existent and the control knob was not working. I called for technical support and I ended up taking the seat off to see if the woofer was moving it was but barely. Very disappointed paying 1600 for a system that should rock.
