Rival 4x4 Aluminum Front Winch Bumper Review for Jeep Wrangler & Jeep Gladiator

Hey Rob here for quadratec.com. Today we're checking out the Rival aluminum front winch bumper. By combining both steel and aluminum Rival is giving us a lightweight yet very strong winch bumper for either the Wrangler or Gladiator. It's available in two configurations for you, there's a stubby width version or a full-width version both of which are using that strong inner steel substructure with a lightweight outer aluminum skin. Either the stubby or full-width version have both been designed to be compatible with both the 07 to 18 Jeep Wrangler JK as well as the newer 18 and up Jeep Wrangler JL and the all new Gladiator JT. They include all the brackets you need with the bumper for an easy bolt-on installation to your Wrangler or Gladiator with no drilling or modifications to your vehicle required. If we start by taking a look at the stubby width version of the bumper that i have installed on our Wrangler here you can see that it gives your Jeep a very great aggressive look with those amazing approach angles. The stubby version of the bumper comes in weighing a mere 86 pounds. If you're looking for a little additional front end protection you can choose the full width version of the bumper which does extend coverage all the way out to the edge of your fender flares and also includes provisions for mounting some cube lights and still only comes in at just 99 pounds. So you can see how going with that lightweight outer aluminum skin really helps keep the weight down on these bumpers. Rival’s including a grille guard and light hoop with the bumper and it can be used with or without that light hoop installed. As you can see it gives you multiple mounting options for some different light configurations. We've not only got some slots but we also have some holes that make it easy to mount some cube lights or a light bar, we have some additional mounting options on the underside of that hoop as well and the back side of that hoop is open to make concealing all of your light wiring very easy. In addition to the hoop they're also including this lower skid plate. While everything else on the bumper including the skin the hoop and the inner structure is finished in a lightly textured black powder coat they chose to finish that lower aluminum skid in a silver accent color which i think looks absolutely great. That lower skid is going to help to give you some additional front low protection to your sway bar area. All of the outer skin, skid plate and hoop are crafted from six millimeter thick aluminum while I mentioned that inner steel substructure is crafted from five millimeter thick steel. That substructure also doubles as your integrated winch mount capable of carrying up to a 12,000 pound capacity winch. Additionally it extends all the way out to the mounting points for the bumper behind our two front recovery points. These recovery points are rated for up to three and a half tons. As you can see they are a dual function recovery point, we've got both a hook on the top side that makes a very quick and easy attachment point for a tow strap and then we also have a slot down below to allow you to attach some 3/4 inch d-ring shackles with a 7/8 inch shackle pin. Because it is a slot rather than a simple hole it's going to allow you two different configurations you can simply attach your d-ring shackles with the shackle pin or you can slip the entire bow shackle through that opening additionally just inboard of each of those recovery points we also have some off-road jack or some high lift jack recovery points there that allow you to get a good stable connection with an off-road jack again to help assist in any off-road recovery situations you may find yourself in.
