Tread Lightly!

With a multitude of national forests, parks, wildlife refuges and snow-capped mountains, it is easy to get lost in Alaska’s beauty.

And yet, there is always room for improvement. In this case, trail improvement.

So our latest ’50-for-50 Trail Stewardship Grant Initiative’ picked up shop and headed out to the Last Frontier to help out Bluff Cabin Trail in Big Delta, about 350 miles northeast of Anchorage.

Volunteers Friday worked with a local contractor to build up and bank a turn on the highly-used trail, and then added material to cover soil-stabilizing Geotex fabric while also compacting six yards of D-1 screened gravel at the trail’s staging area.

Bluff Cabin is a multi-use trail that sees a lot of off-roading, snowmobiling, dirt biking, e-biking, horseback riding, skiing and snowshoeing.

The Alaska project marked the eighth ’50-for-50’ trail improvement. Over the next two years, Quadratec is sponsoring one project in each state that improves public land or off-road trail access.

“It’s amazing to get help with funding for trail maintenance, the forgotten ingredient for long-term trail success,” said Mindy Eggleston, Delta Junction Trails Association President. “Well Done 50/50 Quadratec & Tread Lightly! Thank you so much for contribution to our heavily used trail.”

Quadratec’s ’50-for-50’ stewardship grant fund helps project managers pay for equipment, fees, volunteer support, food, fuel, signage and other miscellaneous costs.

Quadratec has been a supporting partner of Tread Lightly! for more than 20 years, and a longtime fundraiser for Tread Lightly!’s stewardship programs. The company has also promoted Tread Lightly! and other trail restoration efforts through its Quadratec Cares ‘Energize the Environment’ program.

Clubs and individuals are required to be active, supporting members of Tread Lightly! to be eligible to apply for ’50-for-50’ grant funding. To learn more about the Quadratec ’50-for-50 program, visit Quadratec's 50 for 50 Trails Stewardship Grant Initiative.
