JKS Manufacturing JKSOGS962 Drivers Side Steering Brace System for 84-01 Jeep Cherokee XJ & Comanche MJ

Laser-cut chassis plates are supplied for the inner and outer chassis rail, along with special sleeves that tie both plates together and provide additional support for the steering gear. The chassis plates and sleeves must be welded to the vehicle's chassis, as a bolt-on design could not possibly provide the same level of integrity and fitment.
The JKS Steering Brace System also helps distribute loads properly on vehicles with a winch or heavy front bumper. The additional support even strengthens the mounting location for the OE tow hook and repositions it for improved off-road clearance.
For the ultimate upgrade, our Steering Brace System is available for the driver and passenger side chassis rails in one complete kit. In addition to the benefits already mentioned, Cherokee owners can also benefit from a noticeable improvement in steering response and feel.
Product Overview
The unibody chassis on Jeep® Cherokee XJ models is constructed of multiple sheet metal layers that are formed and spot welded together. When subjected to the torsional forces that occur off-road, the chassis develops small fatigue fractures in high stress locations.

The power steering gear mount is particularly vulnerable, due to the tremendous leverage required to control large tires in off-road conditions. Making matters worse, the steering gear is attached to the chassis with bolts and sleeves made of dissimilar metals. As a result, they often fuse together from corrosion, making it virtually impossible to detect a loose mounting bolt.

Once failure occurs, there simply is no easy or inexpensive solution. And without steering control, driving the vehicle to a repair facility just isn't an option.
