Weber 32/36 DGEV Carburetor Reviews
The 5 stars are for the kit itself, the instructions could definitely be better. I installed this on my 1978 CJ7 with the AMC 258 engine and manual transmission. It replaced the original Carter YF carburetor which was in really bad shape. To me, the most important part was to figure out how to orient the carburetor in order to minimize or avoid changes to the existing linkage and throttle cable.
Since I was not able to find any solutions online and there are so many configuration options available, I will share my experience hoping that it helps someone save time:
1.- I chose to install my carburetor with the choke facing the front of the vehicle. This way the throttle lever was facing the side of the engine, the cable bracket could be connected without interference, and the existing studs on the manifold did not interfere with the adapter. This orientation also makes it easy to access the idle speed and mixture adjustment screws.
2.- The throttle lever must be rotated 180 degrees for it to have the proper connection to the throttle cable. Simply bend the locking tab on the washer, remove the retaining nut, reorient the plate, and reassemble.
3.- Out of the box, the fuel inlet points to the side opposite the choke. In my case, the fuel line comes from the front, so I had to flip the fuel inlet fitting to the opposite side (swap it with the plug) so it pointed towards the front.
4.- I removed the old linkage and was able to connect the original throttle cable directly to the new bracket and throttle lever plate.
In my case, this is all that was needed to install the carburetor, obviously, the tune-up varies, but following the instructions provided it worked perfectly right away. My main concern going into this was the lack of specific instructions for installation, but I guess with so many possible configurations they didn't want to mislead anyone. In the end, the only modifications required to make this work were to the carburetor itself.
I received the kit and the instructions for install are far to general to be of any real help. I have attached three pictures of what I did to install my K-550 on my 1974 CJ5. The throttle bracket with the kit works if you modify the stock cable sheath. It needs to be shortened by 1/2" in order to have the travel needed for full throttle. As well the cable attachment needed to be moved all the way to the right and a extra washer installed to give clearance needed for throttle movement. I also cut off the extra threads on the stud in order to clear. My salesman sold me a linkage kit (99007.551) that does not apply to my need. Hope this helps anyone with my same setup.
