This thermostat housing/water outlet has the radiator and bypass hose fittings perpendicular to the engine, instead of angled backward toward the cylinder head. If you have v-belt accessory drive on your engine, this will allow much easier installation of the hoses, and removal of the valve cover. If you have a serpentine belt, this is not for you.
