Rock Hard 4X4 Front Bumper with Angled Hoop & Rear Bumper Tire Carrier Reviews
Front bumper:
Extremely well built and exactly what I was looking for. The most difficult part of the install was actually removing the old bumper, which required a torch, impact wrench, the longest breaker bars I could find, and a whole lot of swearing. The new one installs in minutes. Winch and light bar installs are straightforward with the provided mounts.
Rear bumper:
The hardware kit they send is chock full of random items. Once you have your old bumper removed, the first thing you should do is lay out and organize all the hardware. I mostly ignored the printed instructions and watched the video of the install on Rock Hard's website. After watching it all the way through, I followed along step-by-step. However, I did not find it necessary to drop my gas tank skid plate like they suggested on my 1993 Wrangler. I just used an extender on my drive ratchet and went in between my leaf springs and gas tank. BE CAREFUL WHEN INSTALLING THE TAB NUT FOR THE STRIKER. It slipped out of my fingers the first time and dropped inside the bumper, so I had to take the whole thing off to get it out. The amount of spacers you use for the swing out carrier will require some trial and error which is a little frustrating, but as reference I ended up using three spacers with 33" tires and it now fits perfectly. Their instructions aren't very helpful in this regard.
Another thing to note is you will need the rear frame support braces if you're mounting a 33" tire or larger on the tire carrier. It requires welding on a YJ, and I need to remove my rear shackles to make enough room while working.
All in all, both bumpers are solid and look great. The tire carrier mount is designed at an angle so the wheel points slightly skyward. Very happy with the purchase and would recommend to anyone looking for a minimal, utility-minded bumper set. There are cheaper options available, but none with this build quality.
The quality of the bumpers themselves was exceptional; however, the first shipment included no instructions so I had to download the PDF from the website, and there was no hardware whatsoever for the rear bumper and tire carrier. Quadratec customer support was quick to contact RockHard 4x4 to have the hardware shipped to me. Once I received the hardware shipment, I was again displeased to find that a component to the latch had been left out, so I was again without the proper parts. I contacted RockHard 4x4 directly to obtain the part and was told that it would be shipped the following day, but have not received it as of 4 working days later. The order was placed on 07/06/17 and as of 08/01/17, I still have no bumpers on my Jeep. The bumpers look great...on my garage floor.
