Rugged Ridge Factory Soft Top Replacement Hardware Reviews
This was a totally useless product. I was finshing the restoration of my 95 YJ.( This is my Third Jeep restoration, so I have a good idea of what I'm doing). Friends said you might as well get new framing for the sail cloth Best top soft top I had purchased in the spring. The old Best top frame was pealing but is still functioned perfectly. I order this rugged ridge frame. These plastic front windshield pieces were way too flimsily. The top bars would not lock into these parts properly. All of the parts were not of the same quality as the Best Top parts. The rear window bar, no one could figure out how to install it properly. But worst of all were the snaps did not fit the best top snaps. They were too big and the best top snaps would not fit in. I tried to move the old snaps over but the frame rails are slightly different and they would not fit one the Rugged Ridge frame rails. I had two very experienced restoration guys working with me on this Jeep and we all finally gave up. Boxed the new frame up and reinstalled the old frame. Now I'm stuck with a frame that I don't believe Quadratech will take back so I'm out $350. This is not my first disappointment with Rugged Ridge. I'm done with Rugged Ridge.
Quadratec should not sell this kit.
I wanted to replace the stock hardware on my 95 since the powder coating was peeling and there were cracks in some of the runners. I ordered this kit to solve all my issues since it's a complete replacement. Here were my problems:
-While installing the side rails using my 3/8" ratchet and torx socket, I sheared one of the bolts with my hand over the head of the ratchet, not the handle. Very weak, indeed.
-The rear spreaders are adjustable, so when I put my top on, I adjusted the spreader to be as loose as possible. Once I was ready to straighten the bow, I pushed up and the plastic stud on the windshield retainer sheared completely off. I did notice that the plastic for the windshield retainer was much less pliable than the items I removed...
-The plastic retainer pins that push into the side rails to limit the movement of your top frame did not fit at all.
-The plastic clip that holds the front arm to the windshield stud was installed backwards. I popped it off and flipped it no problem, but the detent formed in the metal arm was too far from the edge, so the clip couldn't get a good seat on the stud.
-And the kicker: After removing the hardware and returning it to Quadratec, I went with the Bestop hardware which is well worth the extra money. When I went to button the top to the frame, I noticed that six of the ten snaps from the Rugged Ridge hardware had sheared off of the frame when I removed it and were stuck in the buttons of my top.
DO NOT BUY THIS!
