Tuffy Security Console Insert Reviews
Once you get the parts oriented, it’s a pretty straightforward install. Locks up tight, no movement at all. Nice product.
Just installed this Tuffy 348-01 Security Console Insert (with original cam lock, not the combination lock) for my 2018 Jeep Wrangler 2-door JL late yesterday, but was too late to take pics of it, so I did that this morning (see below in the comments section). Admittedly, I bought this about five years ago when they first came out, so my experience installing it might be a little different from some, but I think it's pretty similar. My primary intent was to have this serve as a lock box to temporarily store my handguns when at a location that doesn't allow me to carry inside, but this is an absolute must when driving a Jeep Wrangler with top/doors off. As others have remarked, the included paper instructions aren't the greatest. I found some YouTube videos from vendors that were helpful, and one from Tuffy that was extremely helpful (showing on a table how it's put together, so it makes it easier to understand how to do it in the cramped quarters of the console). It wasn't that difficult, but it did take a little work to fit everything together inside the console. One of the nice features this has is the silicone rubber bump stops so the lid doesn't go metal on metal when closing/locking it. Unfortunately, with mine, I couldn't get the lock to actuate fully with those in there, so I removed those bump stops, but you could probably also shim out the locking tab slightly so it fits in the slot when you lock it. Also, the hole in the left brace used to secure the slide on the console cover wasn't large enough to fit the 1/4-20 cap screw through, so I had to drill it open just slightly. Lastly, I was missing a screw, which was easily resolved with a five minute drive to Home Depot to spend less than $5 for stainless steel screws and Nyloc nuts. I like that it still let's me retain the USB functionality inside the console, and you can see my Sig Sauer P320 clearly fits in there pretty easily. All in all, I still rate this a 5 out of 5.
Worked great in my 4xe and installed as advertised. Instructions are a little tricky to work with as the diagrams are not great at perspective. Could be me and may not be a problem for other folks but just a heads up.
