Rough Country Winch Mounting Plate Reviews
The part does require extra parts for some Jeeps. From the Rough Country website: "2012-2016 models REQUIRE brake pump canister relocation bracket (#1043)".
Solid but tricky to install. My installation was different because I have a Currie skid plate which mounts to the stock bumper. This skid plate has draw-bar mounts that I use to flat tow my JK Rubicon behind a motorhome. So in a perfect world, I would of left all the bolts loose to aid in aligning the top bolts. I chose not to do it that way because bolt access is a challenge. The first pair of tricky bolts connect the side plates to the frame rail. One side is almost completely hidden inside the frame. It would of been nice If they provided nuts with a tab welded to avoid cramming a wrench into the frame to partly (only partly) grip the head of the bolt for tightening. The provided nuts are compression lock nuts so you need to turn that sucker many rotations to snug it down. A regular nut and lock washer would of been more friendly, but still painful (a tabbed nut would be far better). The next complication was that the winch plate holes did not line up well with the bolt holes. This may be solved if I had left the 4 + 4 frame horn mounting bolts looser. But I tightened them up before installing my skid plate and before laying the winch plate on top. Why, because they are almost impossible to get to once the top and bottom are closed up. So, in my case I needed to open the holes up a little. I went back (at the end) and properly torqued those 4 + 4 bolts... and that exercise was quite difficult even with an assortment of extensions, swivels and universal joints on my torque wrench. So, bottom line this thing is solid and heavy duty but some tabbed nuts would of made the regretful placement of 2 bolts far less annoying.
