Rough Country Classic Full Width Rear Bumper Reviews
Installed on my 1987 YJ. Didn't have to drill any holes as the brackets lined up with the existing holes. Kit included hardware but was missing 4 lock nuts so had to go to hardware store to buy before I could finish install.
Previous owner had raised the body 2 inches so there was enough room to fit tools behind bumper plate to tighten down nuts.
The kit included two square washers to fit underneath, between the frame and bumper mount. There wasn't enough room to fit and the kit didn't include the proper size bolts anyways. I'll have to figure out the size and make a second trip to the hardware store.
Last minor issue, the D-Rings included were black to match the bumper, not galvanized silver as in the picture. I actually wanted silver ones so I'll have to purchase those separately as well.
Otherwise, install was fairly quick and easy and the bumper looks great.
Ordered this for my '01 TJ on Sunday and it arrived Friday with free standard shipping.
The bumper arrived well packed and the parts listed were all present. As far as the bumper and the mounting brackets, I'm very pleased with the materials and workmanship. Looks as advertised, welds look nice, powder coat looks quality, and there's ample reinforcement around all the stress/recovery points inside. The 2" receiver looks very solid as integrated receivers go. A pair of 3/4" d-ring shackles rated for 9,500 pounds were included with the hardware, as advertised.
The hardware is grade-8 with Nyloc nuts, which is nice, as that potentially saves a trip to the hardware store. All hardware listed was present....
On the downside, the parts list includes 8 of those Nyloc nuts, which is 4 less than required for a proper installation .... oh, well; off to the hardware store.
Installation (with trip to hardware store) was about 2.5 hours on my own and required drilling 4 holes which are laid out for you by the brackets. I did have to remove the nuts from the fuel tank straps and the rear of the fuel tank skid in order to let the tank sag about 2 inches for access to those holes with hardware and wrench. Lower tabs lined right up with the holes on the frame rails.
The included installation instructions were kind of vague, and the pictures were pretty bad quality. Probably time to change the toner in the copier, guys. Also, the Wrangler they photographed for the instructions had an aftermarket frame mounted receiver, which, combined with the poor quality of the picture was a bit confusing until I realized what it was.
Luckily, this install is super simple, uses most of the original bumper's mounting points and most people probably won't need the instructions.
4 stars on account of the hardware shortage- and because I still haven't whacked anything with it yet, so we can't really be sure yet can we?
