OMIX 9" Rear Drum Brake Overhaul Kit Reviews
This kit is great! It gives you ALMOST everything you'll need to do a drum brake overhaul on your TJ. Everything included in the kit is top quality. The only reason why this is not given a 5th star is that it does require you to either A) reuse old components, and if you're overhauling your braking system, why would you do that? or B) spend about 12 bucks for a generic drum brake spring kit from your local car parts shop. I ended up spending the 12 bucks and getting an ACDelco kit for my Jeep.
Components are high quality, and the parts patterns are nearly identical to the parts on my 2003 Wrangler TJ. Fitment was excellent. After minor adjustments to the lower spacer, the brake peddle pressure and parking brake engagement were nearly identical to the factory set.
The kit would be five-star if it provided replacement springs, mainly for the fragile components. During uninstall I was unlucky enough to break the fork spring. The mishap could have scuttled the project schedule, but, luckily, my local parts store had a spring kit remaining for TJ-era Wranglers. The fragile springs are cheap and perishable. They could be provided without much additional cost. If you're planning a drum replacement with this kit, I would recommend buying an additional spring kit from a parts supplier, especially if your Jeep is a daily driver.
Quality replacement kit, but maybe not a complete replacement kit, depending upon how you feel about the state of your current spring set.
How can you call this a "master overhaul kit"? It does not come with any of the springs which hold the brake shoes in place! I will now have to purchase the springs and do this whole job again! Please change the item description to "partial overhaul kit" and maybe familiarize yourselves with the working parts of a drum brake.
