MORryde Heavy Duty Tailgate Hinge Set Reviews
It says it will fit
great hinges, way better than stock. I did have to cut a hole in the top of my taillight for the hinge to fit correctly (because of bolt in hinge). other than that install and product is amazing. would recommend
The good the bad and the ugly
The good; these hinges are well made with thick material in this country. The paint finish appears to be robust and it was carefully shipped to make sure they were not damaged in shipping. The directions that were included had some good pointers on removing 20 some year old rusted fasteners. The included hardware was great, all six point hex bolts, no torx or Allen heads or other flimsy bolts. Following the instructions the tailgate closes great and lines up well. The grease fittings are a good idea. The glass hatch from my hard top seals up for the first time since I’ve owed the Jeep (8 years).
The Bad; they have a different footprint than the stock hinges exposing unpainted metal on my jeep. The factory hinges are painted on the jeep and therefore there is no paint under them. So at a bare minimum you will need touch up paint to cover the bare (primer coated and corroded) metal.
The ugly; my jeep has the canyon wheels and 31x10.5 r15 tires. One size up from stock. These hinges are of a bigger and thicker design than the factory ones and don’t allow my tire room to sit against the rubber stoppers. I will attempt to upload pictures. The hinge hits against the tire. You can barely get a couple of threads started and force the spare tire on the tailgate, but the hinge pushes into the tire by about 1 inch. It looks like it will pop my spare if it would be left like that. I wound up buying a steel wheel with 4 inch backspacing pushing my spare tire 1.5 inches farther away from the tailgate. Now there is plenty on clearance.
So overall these are strong well made hinges. If you already have aftermarket wheels with less backspacing (wheels stick out farther than stock) there will be no spacing issues with your spare tire. I also had to get a different ball mount that is longer to pull a trailer.
