Fab Fours Overland Rack Extension (Requires Overland Rack) Reviews
I really, REALLY, wanted to love this product. In general I like Fab Fours, I have their rear bumper and rack, but the extension kit needs to be reworked, BADLY!!! Because of the extensive damage it caused my Gladiator, the extension is now permanently removed.
On the positive: the materials, welding and powder coating are top notch. I liked the extra real estate it provided for overlanding and short camping trips.
The negative: The design/engineering needs a substantial rework. The kit comes with support arms that mount to the cowl area just forward of the windshield. The space between the cowl and the arm is so narrow that dirt/rocks/debris gets trapped and causes the paint to chip and flake off. I could probably have lived with that of it was the only bad thing about this because the arms are quite large this damage would have remained concealed from view. The cowl cap is plastic and the paint is cosmetic so, while not bad… not a deal breaker.
More negative: The way the support arms attach to the rack is designed to allow for adjustment/alignment so that you can fit it in such a way that it does not touch the body of the Jeep. Great, right? Except no amount of torquing and thread locking compound was ever enough to hold this connection tight enough to keep this connection from slipping. The kit does come with adhesive rubber isolation bumpers to keep contact and vibration damage, but those fell off after about a week.
Results: I now have a dozen bare metal spots around my windshield caused by damage from this product.
