Exposed Racks Under Soft Top Roof Rack Reviews
I have installed these on my 2018 JLU (stock set-up). I purchased the multi-function click-in bars (black) to haul a canoe and plywood/lumber. The installation was easy and the instructions were easy to follow. Total install time was less than an hour. I like how the exposed rack sits under the soft top. The paint appears durable and I did not notice any areas where paint was lacking or poorly applied. I’m not sure how much weight these can hold, but will say, the front do appear high enough to keep what you are hauling off the front windshield; however, the rear supports, that the bar attaches to, does seems to have a little downward flex in the rear. This is a little concerning for me since the rear bar sits pretty much flush with the rear cross-member / plastic speaker covers and could potentially cause damage to the plastic speaker cover if too much weight is resting on the roll cage/sports bar; therefore, it would have been nice to see a little more reinforcement on the longer mount to reduce flex. I don’t see any weight load limits, so I’m not sure how much lumber, or sheets of plywood would be considered safe to carry. I understand the roll cage/sports bar can support a roll-over, but it would be nice if the manufacturer could offer some numbers on safe weight limits so someone, who doesn’t know better, won’t be tempted to load 50 sheets of 3/4” plywood. I rate them 4 stars because I feel the concept is excellent, it definitely solves the problem of needing to haul something if you don’t have a trailer, and the click-in attachment options provide a lot of versatility, but I’d just like to see some reinforcement for the longer mount brackets and some more information from the manufacturer regarding safe/recommended load limits.
