ARB Simpson Series III Tent Annex Reviews
Vehicle stats and install position first, for perspective:
This is installed on a Gobi Stealth rack on 100 series Land Cruiser with a Slee/OME 1.5" medium duty rear lift and ~32" BFG TA KO2's. I have the tent opening over the rear of the truck as the LC.
Setup is easy. You can get this hung in under 3 minutes if you have help. The annex functions as is intended. It is a nice privacy shelter under the RTT and protects from the elements.
Beyond this, the ARB annex really fell short compared to other vendors I saw.
The Annex isn't tall enough for my configuration, as a result I can't properly stake it down. It's a bit surprising to me that this would be an issue since the effective lift height of the truck is not excessive. The problem is the door doesn't open all the way to the ground. It's a tripping hazard as it sits today.
The Annex has an open floor. Keep this closed would be preferred for me for various reasons. Using this annex in the rain would be pointless to me since the ground is going to be soaked and you aren't going to keep anything dry. Worse yet, you're going to be tracking mud/sand/etc right up the RTT ladder since you need your boots on when you hit the ground.
Lastly, and probably the most disappointing of all, is the single door. No matter what mounting configuration you run (side, rear) for the tent, the single door setup makes no sense. Paired with the awning room, you can't go quickly between the Annex and awning room. You also can't mount up any sort of rain barrier between the two.
I think these are simple upgrades and would like to see them incorporated into the next version. The cost add would be worth it and I would order a replacement annex if one was available.
