Reviews for Mountain Off-Road JLFSP18 Front Skid Plate for 18-20 Jeep Wrangler JL
So I recently bought a used 2019 JLUR. It came with a cheap aftermarket bumper from Hooke Road (from China I think) and the stock thin skid plate was left on. However the paint was chipped and it was bent up some and generally looked really bad to me. Couldn't stand it. I started looking for a replacement that would work with the bumper that was on it. I actually do like the look of that Hooke Road bumper and its made from probably 3/16 steel. My plan was to keep the bumper at least for a little while as there are other areas of the Jeep I want to focus on first. It appers they made a similar bumper for the JKs and it had a compatable skid plate. I couldn't be sure that one would work on the JL so I didn't try it. Found the MORE one on Quadratec and it looked like it would fit from all the pictures I saw but they were sold out. Figured I'd go straight to the source and see if MORE had them in stock. They did, so I ordered it. Item came very fast and in great shape because they packed it well. Now, I was not a big fan of their large badge on the front, so a couple stikes of a hammer and chisel and I knocked the rivets holding it on off. Sorry, MORE ;) . I'm definatly going to keep MORE in mind for future needs as this has been one of the better online shopping expieriences I have had. Since I really only had to rake off two bolts to remove the stock thin skid plate that probably sat behind part of the stock bumper, install was very easy, just four bolts for my set up. It fit easily, matching the "fangs" of the Jeep and there was room to spare with my bumper. I needed no modification to fit. I would recommend, on looks ease of install at least. It feels pretty solid, but I guess the real test of a skid plate is how it protects your components. I'm not in a hurry to start smashing it up to review its protective qualities but when I finally do, I'll try to remember to update the review.
Product itself is solid. Simple but looks great. Does the job of covering up the two visible frame fangs that hang down after installing an aftermarket steel bumper and gives an aftermarket bumper a more complete look. I have a 2019 jl and used this skid plate with a quadratec qrc front bumper. Skid plate did not fit bumper without modification. I had to cut about 1 inch deep by 15 inches lengthwise off the skid plate so the backside of the skid plate would fit around the underside of the winch plate on the qrc bumper. Not a big deal and after some cutting it fits and looks great. Just sharing my experience if anyone plans to use this skid in combination with the qrc bumper on a jl.
Took some cutting for it to mount with our after market bumper but is simplistic and looks great
Super quick and easy. Fits perfectly on my Gladiator!
Install was a breeze, I had installed my old jk 10a bumper on my new jl and this skid plate looks better and is heavy duty compared to the stock cover.
The skid plate is well made and fits great. Would have given 5 stars except some hardware was omitted making it more difficult to install than it should have been. The tab bolts were omitted. Had to improvise with an end wrench, tape, and wheel bearing grease to get the nuts installed inside the frame pod. Fortunately I had a couple 3/8” nuts and didn’t have to make a hardware run.
