Reviews for MasterTop ShadeMaker Freedom Mesh Bimini Top Plus for 18-23 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited
Installation was easy but the online video was more help than the printout since those pages were printed out of order / backwards. Provides good sun shade and is nice driving around with it. Problem is you cannot get the front section tight enough to keep it from drooping into the cab headroom. I'm only 5'8" and the material sags down enough that it rubs top of my head and I cannot get the straps pulled any tighter. I like that you can leave the top on with the 3 piece hard top installed, but you have to loosen the front so much to access the levers and latches for the freedom panels that it's not worth the hassle. I will be trying to return this and getting something else that works better and is made for the freedom tops and holds the fabric tight enough to not sag down.
The bimini provides shade and nice airflow, but the front one droops down if there is no wind running through it to keep it aloft. I've tightened all the strops over and over, but it's almost like there is about 1/2" - 1" too much fabric. I'm 6' and the mesh sits on my head and the velcro straps at the sport bar also run into my head. I'm going to try to install it the opposite way to have those velcro straps on top, but I don't know if it will help the drooping fabric at all.
This product looks good when installed, installs quickly and blocks the sun great. The issue I have is that you cannot access the freedom panels latches when you leave the mesh top on. Also, the latch above the sun visor will cause it to stretch when latched. I ended up taking mine off and will be sending it back as soon as I can.
These faded the first year we had them. Definitely a waste of money.
Okay looking product. Creates enough shade.
As others have complained about; you cannot access the freedom panel latches if the mesh is left on. Huge pain! My solution is to set grommets in the location where the Allen heads are for the twisting latches and use a Allen to twist the latches closed. As for the front latches the only way to get these done without stretching the mesh is to leave the strapping long. Before putting on the freedom panel loosen the strap so the front is loose, install panels, latch the front latch then pull the mesh tight again so it doesn't hang down and look like crap. Then use the grommet holes to twist the rest closed.
Really very surprising the manufacturer would overlook this. Almost like they didn't even try it out on a JL. Pitiful the end-user needs to modify the product to work. It was easier to do this mod then return the product that we needed for the trip.
