Reviews for MasterTop Premium Replacement Soft Top with Tinted Windows for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ
At first I was a little concerned as I had never switched tops out before. Directions were easy to download and follow. Took less than the estimated time with only one person. VERY HAPPY
This is not a complicated install, but it's not super easy if you are by yourself just because of the insane amount of pulling and stretching you need to do. It's 80 here, which is warm where I live, and I let it sit out on the lawn for an hour before I started. Very glad I did that.
Also, check your hardware. I definitely over estimated the condition of my hardware, which added some difficulty as things were flopping around all over the place.
Otherwise, it seems like a good quality top. I run a soft top all year so we will see how it goes.
I bought this top because the specs say it's 28oz sail cloth fabric and 40mil windows. The one I ordered had a very loose fit around the rear end of the Jeep. The rear window and passenger rear window had waves in it. No matter what adjustments I made I could not get the waves out. The top flapped quite loud at 60+ miles an hour. Perhaps the one that I received was defective.
I wish it would have worked out because I like the price. I ended up ordering a Bestop and I'm going to return the Master Top once my Bestop arrives.
Way to tight close to impossible to put on. If you get top on you will never want to take top down.
TL;DR
Don't buy this top!
Review
This is 4th time I've replaced the top to my beloved '99 Sport, and this is far and away the worst top I've dealt with.
First, the top's front corners for the header are off from the corner screw holes by a 1/2 inch and even if it did reach, the fabric is split (intentionally) and would be impossible to attach.
Unlike another reviewer, the top is woefully tight. It took a second person to tug and man-handle the rear corners for fit. I have to wonder if my (original) top hardware is getting warped. I had concerns the hardware was going to buckle when locking the front header latches.
Lastly, I can't get the side panels to zip all the way. Once I get to the rear and try to make the rounded corner there's simply not enough slack to complete the circuit.
I haven't even attempted the rear window. I figured I'd take a break and review this now.
I don't even know if I can return this disaster :( I'm writing this off as a 100% loss. Don't make a $400 mistake - save yourself the aggravation! Hopefully this "top" will make it through the spring until I ca scrimp the money to buy an actual top.
